Full job description

Position Summary

The Fiber Site Survey Technician performs on-site assessments to determine readiness for fiber optic service installation. This role ensures that all electrical, environmental, pathway, and space requirements are met before construction and installation.

The technician collects field data, documents site conditions, and provides clear recommendations to engineering and construction teams to enable efficient, first-pass deployment.

Key Responsibilities

Site Survey & Documentation

  • Conduct site visits to assess customer locations for fiber installation readiness
  • Identify and document:
  • Demarcation point (DMARC), MPOE/MPOP, and Telco room location
  • Capture site photos and aerial views with proper orientation
  • Complete standardized survey templates and reports

Power & Grounding Verification

  • Confirm availability of:
  • Dedicated 120VAC power (15–30 Amp circuit)
  • Grounded outlet within 6 feet of equipment location

  • Grounding system meets telecom standards (≤25 ohms, #6 AWG copper)

Equipment Space & Environment

  • Assess Telco room or equipment area for:
  • Adequate space and accessibility
  • Mounting surface (fire-rated backboard or rack space)
  • Validate environmental conditions:
  • Temperature (55–85°F)
  • Humidity ≤70%
  • Clean, dust-free, low vibration space

Pathway & Conduit Assessment

  • Evaluate pathway from building entry point to equipment location
  • Document any interior conduit path from entry to DEMARC if it exists between floors or across interior ceilings
  • Identify:
  • Existing conduit vs. new requirements
  • Clear routing path with pull capability
  • Coordinate with building management for access and approvals
  • Verify conduit size and take a picture to illustrate the potential of placing another cable(fiber) in the conduit

OSP Interface & Access

  • Identify external infrastructure:
  • Handholes, manholes, pedestals, and fiber entry points
  • Assess feasibility of fiber routing from right-of-way to building
  • Note permitting or construction constraints

Reporting & Recommendations

  • Deliver clear, accurate survey reports including:
  • Site conditions and deficiencies
  • Required customer actions vs. provider scope
  • Provide constructability insights to reduce delays and rework

  • Strong attention to detail and reporting skills
  • Experience with fiber deployments (FTTH, enterprise)
