The specialist nurse will identify patients in the Emergency Department requiring end-of-life care and facilitate their discharge to a preferred place of care. They will also lead clinical assessments, provide symptom management, and mentor staff within a multidisciplinary team.
Candidates must hold a nursing qualification with recent experience in palliative or end-of-life care and possess a mentorship or teaching qualification. A non-medical prescribing qualification is required or must be worked towards, and a master's degree is considered desirable.

The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones, but at present we are only reaching around 10% of dying people at the end of life. Right now, one in four people in the UK with a terminal illness, do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives. We want a different society than the one we live in now. Our mission for the next five years is to close the gap in the number of people missing out on what they need at the end-of-life.
About the Role:
Are you an experienced palliative care nurse with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement? At Marie Curie, we are excited to invite highly driven and enthusiastic individual to join our new service at the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
In this role, you will be responsible for actively identifying patients in the Emergency Department who are likely in their last year of life, providing specialist palliative care and facilitating their prompt discharge to appropriate care providers, aligned with patients’ preferred place of care.
You will also manage nursing services for individuals with terminal illnesses, supporting their loved ones, and collaborating with health professionals. As a vital member of our multidisciplinary team, you will offer expert advice and support, managing a caseload of patients with complex needs while ensuring the highest standards of care.
This role exemplifies person-centred leadership, clinical excellence, and effective multidisciplinary collaboration, all of which are crucial for Marie Curie to achieve its strategic goals. You will be expected to adhere to relevant legal, ethical, capability, and clinical frameworks, as well as Marie Curie’s policies and procedures, taking accountability for your actions within the scope of your role.
