We are a regional planning agency that develops solutions in areas such as transportation, environmental and air quality, and human services. MAG serves a thriving region of 5 million people. Our members include 28 cities and towns, three Native nations, and Maricopa and Pinal counties. Our planning area encompasses more than 10,000 square miles. MAG is the council of governments and the designated metropolitan planning organization for transportation planning for the greater Phoenix metropolitan area.

About MAG Community Initiatives Division

The Community Initiatives Division collaborates with local governments, Native nations and community leaders to facilitate human services planning and projects that improve people’s lives and strengthen communities throughout the region. This includes legacy work addressing homelessness, domestic violence and aging. The focus of the division is to staff the Maricopa Regional Continuum of Care which exists to facilitate interagency and cross-sector coordination in resource planning, policymaking, program development and system performance monitoring of the region’s homeless response system.

The Position

MAG is seeking a bright, driven, team-oriented, experienced professional who can blend project management, facilitation and strategic thinking with hands-on practicality. The community initiatives senior planner is responsible for project management and oversight of work products related to the federally funded Continuum of Care program. Major focus will be on data management and performance measures. This includes managing work groups such as Compliance & Performance Monitoring and HMIS & Data Systems Coordination Committees. This position will play a key supportive role in the development of the application for HUD homeless funding.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and facilitating multi-stakeholder and committee meetings; synthesize input into minutes and tracking of actionable items.

  • Conduct research and analysis on needs assessments, gap analyses and program evaluations.

  • Contribute to agenda planning, drafting memos and making presentations.

  • Developing performance measures and dashboards; monitor program outcomes.

  • Drafting reports and board/committee materials, presenting findings to leadership.

  • Building relationships across nonprofits, state agencies, and community groups.

The Candidate

The most successful candidate will have the skills to fulfill the responsibilities listed above with an emphasis in knowledge of homelessness programs, project management, policies and regulations. You will be proficient in facilitation, report writing and presenting homeless information to a diverse set of stakeholders. You will also have knowledge of strategic planning, resource planning and relationship building.

You will have:

  • Experience working with diverse systems that impact homelessness such as healthcare, criminal justice, education, and employment.

  • Experience with tasks such as meeting planning, setup, taking meeting notes, writing agendas, writing reports and policy documents, etc.

  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders with divergent priorities.

  • Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.

  • Ability to manage project goals and multiple priorities daily.

  • Strong policy background and data policy experience.

  • Data analysis and strategic decision-making skills.

  • Strong negotiation skill in driving change and developing mutually beneficial outcomes.

  • Experience with media.

Technology Skills

Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office products, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, public policy, public administration or a related field is required.

  • At least 3 years of related work experience. Experience in working to address homelessness, a Continuum of Care and/or HUD funded program is preferred.
