FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt - overtime pursuant to Collective Bargaining Agreement or Human Resources and Labor Relations Policy

EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP: Just cause subject to probationary period

CURRENT HOURS AND STARTING TIME: Full-time (37.5 hours per week) position. The start time for this position is currently 8:00 a.m.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under direction, assists the Prosecutors in preparing cases for trial and processes evidence for exhibits in trial. Assists prosecutors in courtroom technology. Investigates complaints of consumer fraud. Receives, reviews, organizes, and maintains all new files. Conducts extensive technology checks through the Law Enforcement Information Network. Attends court hearings and serve subpoenas.

This is a grant funded position that is approved through 9/30/2027.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develops relationships with informants to procure leads to investigatory information.

Obtains evidence or establishes facts by interviewing, observing and interrogating suspects and witnesses.

Examines records to detect links in a chain of evidence or information.

Assists in surveillances and performs selected undercover assignments.

Provides technical expertise involving the use of courtroom technology.

Reports critical information to and coordinates activities with other offices or agencies when applicable.

Assists Prosecuting Attorney with both presenting evidence and examining witnesses in court hearings.

Testifies in court or at administrative proceedings concerning the findings of investigations.

Serves subpoenas and/or other official papers and may assist in the seeking and execution of search and arrest warrants, and other legal documents.

Gathers financial and other asset data as part of conducting investigation related to forfeitures resulting from illegal drug, gambling and other criminal activity including money laundering and tax evasion.

Searches and assists in locating and interviewing plaintiffs, defendants, witnesses and/or representatives of business or government to gather facts relating to alleged violations.

Prepares and presents findings in clear, logical and properly documented reports of investigations for use by legal or administrative authorities.

Assists in investigations of a confidential nature regarding the activities of individuals in Police Departments as well as individuals in County Departments, Townships, Cities, and State Offices.

Reviews case files to determine and assist appropriate necessary actions.

Conducts LEIN (Law Enforcement Information Network) queries, CLEAR (Citizen Law Enforcement Analysis and Reporting) searches, VINELINK (Victim Information and Notification Everyday), MiCSES (Michigan Child Support System Enforcement System) and other official database searches.

Maintains contact with key people involved in cases, inquiries from general public.

Prepares paperwork and keeps records pertaining to assigned duties.

Maintains continuing education and training to keep up with the latest changes and innovations.

Assists in the examination of business, personal or public records and documents to establish facts and verify accuracy and authenticity of data, facts and evidence.

Reports periodically to the Prosecutor and the Chief Investigator on the progress of investigations.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or General Education Equivalent (GED)

• Three (3) years of investigative experience

Preferred Education and Experience

• Associate’s degree from an accredited university or college

Required Licenses or Certifications

• Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license and an operable insured automobile for authorized travel

COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES:

Knowledge of:

• Computer and software troubleshooting

• Latest Courtroom presentation software, video and audio editing

• Applicable software applications and digital evidence (i.e. Sanction, Powerpoint, Camtasia, Power Director, Input Ace, etc.)

• Legal terminology and court procedures

• Principles and practices of basic bookkeeping

• Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment

• Working knowledge of those court rules and other laws to carry out the assigned duties

Skill in:

• Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships

• Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature

Ability to:

• Meet schedules and deadlines of the work
