The Hong Kong Jockey Club
Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club (“the Club”) is a world-class racing club that acts continuously for the betterment of our society. The Club has a unique integrated business model, comprising racing and racecourse entertainment, a membership club, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charities and community contribution. Through this model, the Club generates economic and social value for the community and supports the HKSAR Government in combatting illegal gambling.
The Division
The Charities and Community (C&C) Division manages strategic planning, grant donations, impactful project initiation, community engagement, and the day-to-day operations of the HKJC Charities Trust. C&C works with the Government, NGOs, and community partners to proactively identify root causes of social issues and address them through innovative approaches and cross-sectoral collaboration.
The Department
The Programme team (Education & Youth Cluster) at the Charities Department works to achieve the Club's vision as a world class charity and community benefactor, solving Metropolitan social issues with innovations.
Reporting directly to the Senior Manager/Deputy Executive Manager, Charities, the job holder is responsible for:
Assessing and reviewing donation applications and prepare approval documents
Conducting research on social issues and new initiatives to address community needs
Planning and monitoring the implementation of charity projects
Liaising with and maintaining professional relationships with external partners
The Job
Assess and review donation applications' support-worthiness, including analysing social issues, applicant background, along with the reasonableness and feasibility of the proposed programme content and budget.
Liaise with applicants on proposals vetting and handle relevant administrative work.
Support Assistant Executives in preparing and drafting approval papers and annexes.
Conduct research on social issues and new initiatives, to support the development of new projects or theme/issue strategies.
Activities include literature review, industry/sector data analysis, in-house or externally managed surveys and focus groups, discussion with potential project partners, etc.
Monitor approved projects to ensure that they are implemented and completed according to schedule, pledged output and within the original agreed scope and budget; ensure consistencies and accuracies in statistical / financial / progress reports and project updates, along with assessing project change requests and preparing documentations for internal approvals.
Assist in reviewing event invitations by grantees as part of the ongoing project monitoring process of approved projects, draft articles and speeches for publicity events, and supporting PR / media initiatives.
Liaise with external partners (e.g., grant applicants, grantees, consultants) and internal counterparts (e.g., Finance, Procurement, IT), throughout different stages of the project lifecycle.
Participate in ad-hoc projects and prepare presentation materials, miscellaneous papers.
Organize and support the organising of Charities team initiatives (e.g., Culture Transformation, retreats, planning and execution of stakeholder engagement activities, knowledge management) and drive own personal development.
Perform other related duties as assigned, such as to participate in or support knowledge sharing under the Children & Youth in Families theme, along with engaging in other projects and TIPs when required and carry out other duties as directed.
About You
A Bachelor's degree with minimum 6-8 years working experience or equivalent preferably with exposure to NGOs, Government, policy research, or public and social service settings.
Good communication and excellent writing skills in both English and Chinese
Solid soft skills including critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration
Good interpersonal and teamwork skills
