The Maintenance Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining mechanical, electrical, and structural systems within housing facilities. They perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure the safety and operational efficiency of the infrastructure.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED with at least three years of experience in building maintenance or mechanical repair. Proficiency in plumbing, electrical work, and carpentry, along with the physical ability to perform manual labor, is required.

The Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation and safety of facility infrastructure by performing routine and emergency maintenance tasks at the Grand Rapids Housing Commission (GRHC). This position requires a hands-on approach to diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining mechanical, electrical, and structural systems within GRHC facilities. The technician will be responsible for identifying potential issues before they escalate, thereby minimizing downtime and maintaining a safe environment for all occupants. Collaboration with other team members and departments is essential to prioritize maintenance requests and complete projects efficiently. Ultimately, the Maintenance Technician contributes to the overall operational excellence and longevity of the facility’s assets through skilled workmanship and proactive maintenance strategies.
The required skills such as plumbing, electrical wiring, and mechanical repair are applied daily to troubleshoot and resolve facility issues efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to operations. Precision measuring is essential for accurate installation and repair work, maintaining system integrity and safety.
