The Advisory Councils Secretariat supports the operations of 14 regional advisory councils across the province. The councils are made up of members of the public who live in the region they represent. Their role is to provide input and advice on how to improve health care in their region.
Role Responsibilities
The Manager leads a team responsible for council operations, stakeholder engagement, governance and administrative support. The position oversees planning and delivery of council meetings, engagement activities and recruitment initiatives while ensuring effective management of council processes, resources and operational priorities. The Manager provides leadership and direction on complex issues, supports collaboration across government and the health system, and ensures the consistent delivery of high-quality Secretariat services.
Primary responsibilities include:
Leading Secretariat operations that support Regional Advisory Councils, ensuring effective governance, planning and delivery of council activities.
Providing leadership, coaching and supervision to a team of professionals while establishing priorities, overseeing workloads and fostering a culture of excellence, accountability and continuous improvement.
Overseeing the planning and administration of council meetings, stakeholder engagement activities and recruitment initiatives, ensuring effective logistical coordination and meaningful participation from stakeholders.
Building and maintaining collaborative relationships with council members, government partners, health system organizations and community stakeholders to support effective engagement and issue resolution. Providing strategic advice, policy support and recommendations to senior leadership through the analysis of emerging issues, trends and stakeholder perspectives, and the preparation of reports, briefing materials and other decision-support products.
Leading operational planning, project management and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen Secretariat services, support division priorities and enhance the ability of councils to provide informed advice on local and provincial health priorities.

Qualifications
Minimum Recruitment Standards University graduation in a field related to Community Engagement, Communications, Public Policy, Public Administration, Social Sciences, Business, or Public Health supplemented by four years related experience.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
The following is required:
Valid Class 5 Driver’s license
Must be available for travel independently throughout the province and able to work evenings and weekends as required (less than 25% required travel)
The following will be considered as assets:
Certified Public Participation Professional (IAP2 Certificate)
Experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders including rural, remote, and Indigenous communities
Understanding of the health care system in Alberta
Working knowledge of Government of Alberta structures and decision-making processes

Systems Thinking: Takes a long-term view towards organization’s objectives and how to achieve them. The Manager must have a broader understanding of health care priorities, and emerging local issues and analyzes connections to ensure successful operations of the councils.

Hours of work are 08:15 AM to 04:30 PM, Monday to Friday. Full-time permanent position working 36.25 hours per week in Calgary or Edmonton
