Job Title: Coax Technician II

Division: FiOptix Inc

FSLA Status:  Non-Exempt

Reports To: Project Manager

Job Summary: This position is responsible for establishing communication systems by installing, operating, and maintaining voice and data telecommunications network circuits and equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare installation diagrams for various projects
  • Splice active and passive network components
  • Plan network splicing by studying customer work order requests and using customer playbooks, manuals, and technical specifications
  • Troubleshoot network for noise and ingress
  • Rough balance amplifier and set node outputs
  • Utilize coaxial test equipment, including TDR, DSAM (Sweep and Balance), and leakage detector
  • Document and retrieve splicing information
  • Maintain equipment, material, and tool inventory 
  • Resolve customer issues accurately and timely; escalate matters of significance to local management 
  • Provide as-builds as required
  • Complete all required Company documentation 
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.

Education: High school diploma, general education degree (G.E.D.), or related trade school education

Experience: 

  • One-year coax splicing experience
  • One to two years telecommunication construction and cable experience preferred
  • Ability to use sweep equipment 

Technical Skills:

  • Computer and Microsoft Office proficiency 
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot design plans as needed to support the project
  • Ability to read and understand maps, drawings, and diagrams for project build process
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Excel or equivalent software to document and retrieve splicing information

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to read, comprehend, and carry out instructions 
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines 
  • Ability to detect errors, determine causes, and make corrections as appropriate

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets Company requirements
  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat, and lift 50 lbs. 
  • Ability to climb and work at elevations 
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Ability to work in confined spaces 
  • Ability to work long and unpredictable hours
