Title:
Senior Property Underwriter - APAC
Company:
Everest Intl Re, Ltd Singapore
Job Category:
Underwriting
Job Description:
Everest is a global leader in risk management, rooted in a rich, 50+ year heritage of enabling businesses to survive and thrive, and economies to function and flourish. We are underwriters of risk, growth, progress and opportunity. We are a global team focused on disciplined capital allocation and long-term value creation for all stakeholders, who care deeply about our impact on communities and the wider world.
Role Overview
This Property Underwriter role will support Everest’s Wholesale & Specialty Property portfolio across the full APAC region, underwriting new and renewal business across diverse markets while helping drive disciplined, profitable growth. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team of six and partner closely with brokers, cedents, clients, and internal stakeholders across the region. Experience with facultative reinsurance and/or the Lloyd’s market is advantageous, given the role’s exposure to wholesale, facultative, and open market property placements across APAC.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Underwrite and manage a diversified Property portfolio across the full APAC region within defined underwriting authority, ensuring alignment with Everest’s risk appetite, pricing discipline, and profitability targets.
Evaluate new and renewal business across multiple occupancies through both broker and direct channels, including primary, proportional, and excess structures.
Underwrite and service APAC open market property accounts (new and renewal), including wholesale and facultative placements.
Review submissions (including statements of values, loss history, and catastrophe modelling outputs) and apply sound underwriting judgement to assess risk and determine appropriate terms and conditions.
Drive profitable growth by identifying and securing new business opportunities across key APAC markets, while maintaining a disciplined approach to risk selection.
Prepare and negotiate quotes, proposals, and bind risks within delegated authority, ensuring contract clarity and compliance.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, cedents, and clients across the full APAC region to support long-term portfolio development.
Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders including Actuarial, Claims, Engineering, Reinsurance, Legal/Wordings, Accounting, and Regulatory teams to ensure effective risk assessment and service delivery.
Contribute to portfolio management through monitoring aggregation, exposure management, and performance tracking.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regional market dynamics, competitor positioning, and emerging risk trends across APAC.
Support the development and mentoring of junior underwriters, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team culture.
Apply both analytical tools (including catastrophe models and AI-enabled underwriting platforms) and professional judgement to support consistent, high-quality underwriting decisions.
Contribute to continuous improvement of underwriting processes, tools, and governance frameworks.
Travel across APAC markets as required to support business development and relationship management.
Qualifications, Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree (preferred).
Minimum 7+ years’ experience in property underwriting, ideally with exposure to APAC markets.
Experience with facultative reinsurance and/or the Lloyd’s market is advantageous.
Strong understanding of catastrophe modelling, actuarial concepts, and portfolio management principles.
Demonstrated ability to build and manage broker and client relationships across diverse APAC markets.
Commercially astute with strong negotiation and decision-making capabilities.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior internal and external stakeholders.
Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and able to operate effectively in a dynamic, growth-focused environment.
Collaborative team player with a commitment to developing others and contributing to team success.
