The Group Fitness Instructor – Line Dancing is responsible for creating a welcoming, energetic, and inclusive environment by leading engaging line dancing classes for participants of all ages and fitness levels. This position promotes healthy living while fostering meaningful relationships that strengthen community. The instructor serves as a positive ambassador of the YMCA by providing safe, enjoyable, and motivating classes that encourage members to stay active and connected.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Plan and lead safe, engaging, and enjoyable line dancing classes for participants of varying abilities.
Teach proper dance techniques, movements, rhythm, and class choreography in an encouraging and easy-to-follow manner.
Modify movements as needed to accommodate participants with different fitness levels, physical limitations, or experience.
Arrive prepared with music, lesson plans, and equipment prior to each class.
Create a welcoming atmosphere by greeting participants, learning names, and encouraging relationship building among members.
Promote participant safety by monitoring the class environment and responding appropriately to emergencies.
Maintain accurate attendance records and report class participation as requested.
Ensure the studio or activity space is clean, organized, and ready before and after each class.
Communicate equipment or facility concerns promptly to the Director of Health & Wellness.
Support YMCA membership retention by building positive relationships and encouraging continued participation in wellness programs.
Assist with special events, demonstrations, member engagement activities, and wellness promotions as requested.
Represent the YMCA's mission, values, and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in all interactions.
Follow all YMCA policies, procedures, risk management practices, and safety standards.
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience teaching line dancing, dance instruction, group fitness, or related experience preferred.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and motivational skills.
Ability to lead groups with enthusiasm, confidence, and professionalism.
Ability to adapt instruction for participants with varying abilities and fitness levels.
Current Adult CPR/AED and First Aid certifications (or ability to obtain within required timeframe).
Ability to pass all required background screenings and complete required YMCA trainings.
Praesidium Guardian certification required within designated timeframe.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to conduct classes and activities.
Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
Must be able to comfortably lift and carry at least 25 pounds.
Ability to perform repetitive motions.
