About Croydon
As one of London’s largest and most diverse boroughs, Croydon is a fantastic place to live, work and spend time, with all the benefits of close proximity to the rest of London and the south-east.
Over the past decade we have seen huge investment, regeneration, and growth in our Borough. Croydon remains an attractive and important part of London for ongoing growth and investment – growth from which we want to see all our communities’ benefit.
The role brings opportunities for those who want to work in a fast-moving environment, focused on improvement and delivering better services. Croydon is an exciting place to work. You will need to be ambitious, passionate about creating a better place, demonstrate strong personal responsibility and a desire to deliver great places.
We have a great management team, who lead, inspire and believe in Croydon. If you want a challenge with great job satisfaction, there is no better opportunity than Croydon.

As a result of the ambitions for the Borough, we are looking to enhance service delivery for our customers and to focus specifically on the realisation of sustainable growth, firmly embedded in high standards of design and the maximisation of social, economic and environmental benefits.
However, sustainable development can only be delivered alongside a proactive and robust planning enforcement regime, and you will be part of a team with responsibility for investigating and resolving alleged breaches of planning control through negotiation and/or the service of planning enforcement notices with follow up of legal proceedings as appropriate.
You will work in a vibrant and busy Development Management Service, and the successful candidate will have to be enthusiastic, motivated and demonstrate a general understanding of town planning legislation, have good written and verbal communication skills and to be able to work under pressure, to strict deadlines and manage a demanding caseload. As part of the role, you will be expected to undertake regular site visits and attend the office a minimum of two days a week.
Ability to drive with access to a car is essential.
If you are interested in joining us, we would be pleased to hear from you.

We provide a large number of services for local people, businesses and visitors to the borough, including services for children and adults, and environmental, cultural, sports, housing, planning and benefits services.
The borough is split into 24 electoral wards, and local elections are held every four years.
With a workforce of approximately 3,300 staff, including teachers in schools, Croydon Council is the largest employer in the borough. Spending over £900 million per year, the council makes a significant contribution to the local economy.
The council comprises three main political functions, the Executive (Leader and Cabinet), Committees, and Scrutiny.
The Leader and Cabinet are responsible and accountable for shaping policies and plans and recommending them to the council for approval. Cabinet also gives direction to departmental directors on the way services are managed and the budgets allocated to them.
Six non-executive committees take decisions relating to planning, licensing, standards of behaviour and conduct for members and officers, staffing issues, tenders, property transactions, liaison with local utility companies and internal audit.
Scrutiny holds the council executive functions to account. Examining aspects of council performance, the Overview and Scrutiny Committee also increasingly involves other local agencies which contribute to the economic, social and environmental well-being of the local population.
