Job Summary   

The Quality Lab Analyst is responsible for conducting analytical tests for the purpose of the timely release of batches and approval of raw materials with adherence to Good Laboratory Practices.  

This is what you will do:  

Applicable to All Job Areas

• Accurately fill out batch records and raw material paperwork.   
• Accurately fill out product release forms and generate Certificates of Analysis 
• Perform GMP investigations and inspections. 
• Conduct analytical testing on raw materials, bulk products, and finished products. 
• Ensure regularly scheduled lab equipment checks and instrument maintenance are conducted and properly logged. 
• Perform quality checks prior to the start of batches to ensure all chemicals are accounted for, in correct quantities, and that batching vessels are clean and sanitized prior to use. 
• Perform start-up line checks, evaluating compliance with GMP and company policy, in regard to product weight, torque value, component verification, fill weight accuracy, silk scree accuracy, verify batch information, and proper data entry.
• Perform regular checks on production lines, ensuring company specifications are being met.
• Audit finished goods and completed paperwork for compliance with GMPs and company specifications.
• Communicate with other departments as needed to streamline the batching processes, raw chemical receiving processes, and production processes.  
• Complete assigned daily, weekly, and monthly assigned lab duties.   
• Maintain records and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work. 
• Keep up to date with health/safety issues related to work. 
• Communicate effectively with others. 
• Maintain a good attendance record. 
• Perform work onsite. 
• Perform ad hoc quality projects such as statistical sampling of production runs, micro swabbing for pump cleaning and validations, batch specification range testing, tank yield studies, CoA characteristic data entry, etc. 
• Perform other duties as assigned 
• Maintain the Lab fully stocked with material as needed.  

Quality Lab Analyst I (Considered Entry Level Position therefore requiring most supervision/mentoring)

• Analyze samples from various sources to provide information on compounds or quantities of compounds present using analytical techniques and instrumentation. 
• Create working lab solutions for lab use using established procedures 
• Log incoming chemicals and document their usage and disposal for the lab using established procedures. 
• Interpret data and adhere to strict guidelines, instrumentation, and software. 
• Report scientific results according to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) guidelines. 
• Interpret and report issues related to batching, raw chemicals, and production. 
• Identify solutions to correct out-of-specification batches.  Perform lab batching for out-of-specification batches, upscaling calculations, weigh, and measure out chemicals accurately. 
• Use tank mixing controls, sampling techniques, and recirculation methods to ensure efficient mixing and batch homogeneity.   
• Determine homogeneity of bulk on solubility checks.  Be able to identify when additional mixing and recirculation is needed. 
• Issue adjustments to batches following established procedures and guidelines. 
• Perform small-scale adjustments (<50lbs, simple chemical additions) to batches. 
• Work with production to perform analytical tests needed to help troubleshoot line issues. 
• Liaison with R&D and Quality Management to communicate information about R&D batches, and problem batches. 
• Ability to multitask and adjust priorities with urgency and importance in a fast-paced production environment. 
• Ability to complete adjustments according to pre-established procedures.  Ability to properly document all required data points on adjustment sheet(s). 
• Report GMP issues to Quality Management 
• Work collaboratively in cross-functional teams. 
• Liaise with staff, suppliers, and customers (internal and/or external). 
• Ability to perform the tasks needed for external testing (documentation, POs, shipping). 

Quality Lab Analyst II (All Quality Lab Analyst I skills plus the following)

• 1-2 years experience in a quality control manufacturing environment.   
• 6 months experience in a quality control laboratory setting 
• Proactive with communication within the department and with other departments.  Recognizes when issues will affect compounding and production timelines, and alerts department leaders of potential delays. 
• Perform more complex batch adjustments, such as polymer additions and manipulation of tank chills and steam. 
• Perform at an experienced and functional level therefore requiring limited supervision. 
• Functions as a trainer for junior chemists. 
• Proven ability to make correct and effective batch adjustments autonomously.   
• Diagnose compounding and production issues and respond with effective solutions in a timely manner. 
• Develop and update Quality Control SOPs. 
• Engage in Professional Development Activities. 

Quality Lab Analyst III (All Analyst 1 and II skills plus the following)

• 3-4 years experience in a quality control manufacturing environment 
• 2-3 years experience in a quality control laboratory setting. 
• Subject Matter Expert in Quality Control monitoring functions, analytical testing, technical knowledge related to cosmetics,  
• Act as an alternate supervisor in the supervisor’s absence. 
• Function as a lead with the Supervisor present. 
• Show competence with HPLC processes including sample prep, sequence writing, data analysis, reporting, and proper documentation 
• Work collaboratively with other departments to develop and update their respective SOPs. 
• Identify potential improvements to department processes and develop an implementation and rollout plan. 
• Identify root causes for issues and work across departments to develop safe, quality-based, cost-effective solutions.  
• Function with little supervision, most decisions are made autonomously. 
• Keep current on industry regulations.   

Quality Lab Analyst IV (All Analyst I, II, & III skills as well as the following)

• 4+ years’ experience in a quality control manufacturing environment 
• 3+ years’ experience in quality control laboratory setting 
• Act as subject matter expert for Quality Control functions, Compounding functions, Pre-weigh functions, and Production functions.   
• Subject Matter Expert for HPLC, able to develop methods according to FDA guidelines. 
• Develop and implement validations for company processes.   
• Develop and maintain cross-departmental work groups. 
• Make decisions autonomously 

This is what you will need: 

• Lab experience within the field. 
• Experience with basic analytical techniques such as titrations and weighing accurately. 
• Familiarity with basic instrumentation; GC, spectrophotometers, pH meters. 
• Proven ability to multitask.   
• Good listening skills. 
• Ability to read, write, and speak English competently.  
• Strong oral and written communication skills. 
• Ability to work on-site. 
• Ability to maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance. 
• B.S. degree in Chemistry, Biology, or other physical science (preferred).  
• Ability to troubleshoot basic instrumentation, GC, spectrophotometers, and pH meters (preferred).
