Job DetailsJob Location: Wood Dale, IL 60191Salary Range: $70,324.80 - $70,324.80 SalaryThe City of Wood Dale is seeking applicants for the position of Equipment Mechanic in the Public Works Department. This position works under the general direction of the Crew Leader of the Vehicle Maintenance Division. The Equipment Mechanic will perform skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of a variety of light- and heavy-duty automotive and related gasoline- and diesel-powered equipment.
QualificationsThe Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the following duties:
· Repair and replace shock absorbers and brakes; adjust clutches; check wheels for proper alignment; repair and install hydraulic controls; tune engines; replace exhaust systems
· Perform electrical work on equipment; install batteries and terminals; repair and adjust lights; repair electrical wiring; install auxiliary lighting
· Operate standard testing equipment; weld and fabricate equipment and accessories
· Set up new vehicles with appropriate communications equipment, safety equipment, and electrical systems
· Maintain fuel dispensing equipment
· Perform preventative maintenance checks on equipment; change oil; grease and lubricate equipment
· Repair and overhaul portable pumps, chainsaws, mowers, and other small engine equipment
· Maintain records on repairs to equipment
· Other duties as assigned and required
This position frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. This position occasionally works in high, precarious places and is exposed to flames or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electric shock.
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent with vocational training in automotive mechanics; considerable experience as an automotive mechanic at the full skilled-crafts level; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, abilities, and skills. A valid Illinois CDL driver’s license (minimum Class B, or the ability to obtain within six months of employment) is required. Position is subject to the City’s policy for drug and alcohol testing. Position is part of a collective bargaining unit and will be subjected to a negotiated labor contract.
The current starting annual salary is $70,324.80. Benefits include Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund; paid vacation and sick leave accrual; medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. The position is open until filled with initial review of applications beginning August 17, 2026.
