Perform skilled maintenance and operate heavy equipment for the construction and repair of city sewer, street, and storm drainage systems. Responsibilities include monitoring pumping stations, responding to complaints, and collaborating with the engineering department.
Requires a high school diploma or GED and at least two years of experience in heavy manual labor and machinery operation. Must have a valid PA driver's license and the ability to obtain a Class B CDL with tanker endorsement within one year.

Class Title: Equipment Operator II
Bureau of Collection Systems
Class Definition: Working under the direction of the Director of Public Works, Supervisor of the Bureau of Collection Systems, and direct supervision of the Foreman of the Bureau, the incumbent performs a variety of skilled maintenance works and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of the City sewer, street, and storm drainage facilities and systems. This position is considered a union position and is a non-exempt status.

Must possess mobility to work in all types of weather conditions during all seasons of the year. Must be able to use many types of equipment, including heavy motor vehicles, hand tools, shovels, power tools, phone, and light to heavy construction and power equipment. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, in confined spaces, and occasionally in high precarious places and is often exposed to fumes and toxic or caustic chemicals. Strength to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 100 pounds, specific vision abilities to read printed materials, operating equipment, and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, over the telephone. Must be able to climb ladders and steps, walk, kneel and crouch.
Minimum Qualifications Required: Must possess a high school diploma or the equivalent (GED). Two (2) or more years’ experience in the performance of heavy manual labor and light and heavy machinery, preferably related to the installation and maintenance of underground utilities. Must be proficient in operating a backhoe and wheel loader. Must possess a valid PA State Driver’s License and must be able to secure a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with a tanker endorsement within 12 months of hire date.
