THE ORGANIZATION

THE OPPORTUNITY  

The Center’s Syracuse office seeks a Case Manager for the Syracuse City Emerging Adult Domestic Violence (EA DV) Court. Reporting to the EA DV Court Project Coordinator, the Case Manager will support participants in the EA DV Court by connecting them to community-based service partners, including but not limited to abusive partner intervention programs (APIP), local social services, employment and education programs, substance abuse treatment programs, shelter services, legal advocacy, and counseling. The Case Manager will identify and address barriers to voluntary service engagement and ensure warm handoffs to community-based providers, when feasible.  


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  

  • Provide crisis intervention, local service delivery systems advocacy, and short-term clinically-informed case management services and support to individuals with an active case in EA DV Court and provide in-person and telephone crisis intervention, advocacy, and resources and referrals;  

  • Conduct intakes and needs-based assessments for participants; 

  • Serve as a liaison and build positive working relationships with court stakeholders, community partners, and partnering agencies; 

  • Create and facilitate brief educational sessions to emerging adults inside the courtroom on topics related to emerging adults; 

  • Establish and maintain linkages with community partners who can provide appropriate interventions and services to court-involved individuals;   

  • Assist clients in identifying, understanding, and prioritizing problems in obtaining information on available resources and assist in seeking help from intervention systems including criminal justice, legal, medical counseling, and income programs at various community partner locations;  

  • Attend EA DV Court, meeting with participants before, during, and after their court appearances to help them navigate court and collaborate with court staff and stakeholders; 

  • Deliver court update reports to the courtroom, gather case outcome information, collect court documents and stand on record, as needed;  

  • Maintain effective collaboration with court staff, the EA DV Court judge, and Resource Coordinator;  

  • Maintain accurate and timely data entry and case documentation aligned with the program model, court reporting obligations, and best practices;  

  • Maintain the case management database consistent with the Center’s data guidelines and best practices;  

  • Ensure that all services are maintained in accordance with the Center’s mission and goals;  

  • Provide emotional support for the short term and immediate needs of EA DV Court participants;  

  • Provide face-to-face and telephone crisis intervention at the request participants;  

  • Ensure adequate services for program participants;  

  • De-escalate difficult and/or emotional participant situations and respond promptly to their needs;  

  • Adhere to all Center policies, procedures and safety protocols; and; 

  • Additional relevant tasks, as needed. 

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in social work or related field required. Minimum 2-4 years' experience in case management required. Prior experience with youth or young adults, individuals experiencing domestic violence, mental health, substance use disorder, and/or homelessness. Experience in pretrial, court-based, or criminal legal system strongly preferred. Candidates must work effectively in a crisis-orientated setting with diverse individuals. Excellent written skills required. Skilled communicator able to work in a multi-disciplinary setting and maintain strong relationships with multiple agencies and organizations both onsite and in the community. Candidates must be able to develop a compassionate rapport with defendants accused of domestic violence. Candidates must have knowledge of community-based service delivery systems, in particular thorough knowledge of the criminal and civil justice systems. Candidates must promptly respond to crises as well as conducting thorough and consistent follow-up with participants and community-based service partners. Candidates must provide trauma informed services and strong knowledge of crisis intervention techniques. Candidates must be able work in partnership with diverse individuals and maintain positive relationships with community partners. Candidates must be able to multitask effectively, work independently, and adapt to demanding situations and works well under pressure. Candidates must have appreciation and respect for other cultures and people of diverse backgrounds. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Prior experience in a related field strongly preferred. Candidates must understand and value racial equity as an organizational operating principle and is committed to continued learning on issues related to race, equity, diversity and inclusion. 

Position Type: Full-time, Monday - Friday from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.  

Position Location: Syracuse, NY 

Compensation: The compensation range for this position is $52,000 - $55,000 and is commensurate with experience.

We offer a 403(b) retirement plan with a two-to-one employer contribution up to 5%.
