Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of experience working with grade school children and a preferred associate degree. Required clearances include fingerprinting, a negative TB test, and a First Aid certificate.

Full job description

CYO Athletics, a program of Catholic Charities, is designed to be representative of the values of respect, love, compassion and support for each other. Through sports, competition and teamwork, CYO Athletics provides healthy growth and development through games, practices and the life lessons that sports teach.

Salary: $30.00 per hour

Location: Onsite in San Mateo

The Physical Education Instructor will be in charge of instructing movement, fitness activities cooperative games, outdoor activities and more to students in K – 8th grade. This position will include, but is not limited to, skill development, fitness, and promoting a healthy lifestyle.  This person will also be responsible for assisting with the development of additional curriculum.

 

 

 

 

COORDINATION –

  • Plan and teach PE classes (small and large) to all students in elementary classrooms.
  • Maintain all PE and small playground equipment and storage.
  • Substitute teach when/where needed
  • Collaborate with Principal and Director or CYO Athletics on thematic curriculum projects.
  • Mix of movement, fitness activities, cooperative games, group challenges and initiatives, outdoor activities and competitive games/team sport skill development.
  • Competition is kept at a minimum.  The emphasis is on skill development, fitness and fun.
  • Communicates productively with parents, regarding children issues.
  • Mediates conflicts between children, focusing on “accountable- talk.” 
  • Attends Trainings, as directed.

ADMINISTRATION –

  • Keep up-to-date records of attendance.
  • Keep up-to-date records of weekly lesson plans and changes.
  • Keep grades and report them when requested.
  • Report any problems or incidents immediately to the Director of CYO Athletics.

Education & Experience:

 

  •  AA Degree, preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years documented relevant experience working with grade school children in a classroom setting.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 

  •  Must complete Shield the Vulnerable Training prior to hire.
  • Knowledge of organized youth sports; coaching and classroom experience.
  • Ability to supervise elementary aged children.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of Parish school community life.
  • Motivated self-starter who is outgoing and flexible
  • Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in cross-cultural situations.
