Reporting to the Manager and Assistant Manager of Production/Labeling, the Production Technician is responsible for the separation of whole blood into blood and blood components (including the proper operation of equipment and the labeling of blood components) for long-term storage or shipment. Functions must be completed in a manner consistent with all applicable standards, procedures, regulations, departmental goals and objectives, and must be in compliance with standards set forth by, but not limited to the following regulatory bodies: FDA, AABB, EU, and OSHA.
Regular full-time attendance is required during normal working hours. QualificationsEDUCATION
High School Graduate, or GED
EXPERIENCE
Production or manufacturing experience, preferred
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Must complete training for essential functions within 90 days, as appropriate for the shift assigned. Organized and able to document details accurately and completely, both electronically and manually
Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team, with or without direct supervision
Ability to work with strict time expectations, restraints and deadlines
Uses equipment effectively, skillfully and efficiently
Good verbal and written English communication skills
Ability to remain focused on repetitive tasks
PHYSICAL/MENTAL STRESS FACTORS
Standing and/or walking, up to 12 hours daily Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, unassisted Ability to perform and remain focused on repetitive physical tasks, such as reaching overhead and bending Routine exposure to extreme cold and possible slippery conditions, while working in the walk-in freezer/refrigerator Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including but not limited to gloves, gowns, and face shields, at all times, as appropriate for the task Completes federally regulated unit transactions without error multiple times per day Handles and ensures proper temperature maintenance of unprocessed blood products, in compliance with multiple regulations and procedures Routine stress associated with the life/death consequences determined by the quality of performance Understanding that the work of this position carries tremendous significance and it’s outcomes can profoundly impact patients’ lives Stress and risk associated with periodic blood-spill clean-up
