The Clinical Nurse II leads the care delivery team and directs nursing care for a specific group of patients. Responsibilities include independent assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient needs, as well as precepting new employees.
Candidates must be graduates of a state-accredited nursing school and hold a current Ohio RN license. The role requires ACLS certification, completion of unit-specific orientation, and the ability to maintain annual continuing education hours.
Functioning as the leader of the Care Delivery Team, the Clinical Nurse II (CN II) assumes the responsibility of directing care for a team of patients. He/she demonstrates clinical competency, evidence of nursing leadership, and coordinates the nursing care of a specific group of patients. Nursing care reflects independent assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient’s physical, psychological, and sociocultural needs. Precepts new employees as assigned. Demonstrates competencies in the use of equipment essential in the care of patient age groups as indicated. A CN II is the second step of the Mercy (MERCY) Clinical Ladder. This is the competent Staff Nurse level.
1. Graduation from a state-accredited school of nursing.
2. Current licensure from the state of Ohio as an RN.
3. Successful completion of general and unit-specific orientation and hospital probationary period. Completes Orientation Checklist.
4. Obtains/maintains a minimum of 12 contact hours of continuing education annually which includes Fire Safety and CPR Re-certification. ACLS is required.
5. Must have theoretical knowledge combined with clinical experience in providing nursing care for a variety of patients. Must be able to communicate well verbally and in writing with people of varying backgrounds.
Moderate level of physical exertion required. Occasional exposure to adverse conditions.
