Description

Are you passionate about making a positive impact? Join a mission-driven team turning today’s energy challenges into opportunities by cutting waste, lowering bills, and building an economy that benefits all. The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), a leading nonprofit research organization based in Washington, DC, seeks a full-time Executive and Engagement Assistant. At ACEEE, your work delivers practical, cost-effective solutions that help communities nationwide save energy and reduce emissions. Together we’re advancing the efficient use of energy, equitably and at scale, on a path to cut U.S. energy use in half by 2050.

About ACEEE

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) is turning today’s energy challenges into opportunities for stronger communities, a more resilient economy, and a livable climate for all. We are a nonprofit research organization that develops practical, cost-effective ways to advance energy efficiency. Our work has helped shape landmark policies, catalyze clean technologies, and make energy efficiency that nation’s most productive energy resource.

As electricity demand rises due to electric vehicles, data centers, and new manufacturing, energy efficiency is one of the most practical, affordable, and immediate tools to cut emissions, keep costs down, and make sure the clean energy transition benefits everyone, especially low-income and historically underserved communities. ACEEE’s vision is a clean energy future that secures a healthy planet and better lives for all.

ACEEE’s organizational culture is collaborative and team-oriented with a strong commitment to our mission and an emphasis on results. We strive to help all staff develop professionally and to make ACEEE a flexible, fulfilling, and enjoyable place to work. ACEEE is dedicated to fostering a culture that values all individuals and ensures fairness while incorporating these principles into our research and policy work.

The Opportunity

ACEEE seeks an Executive and Engagement Assistant to support the executive team, serve as a liaison to its Board of Directors, and keep staff committees running smoothly. Reporting to the chief operating officer, the position provides a blend of administrative work, event planning, writing projects, and independent responsibilities.

This role is ideal for a highly organized, mission-driven professional who wants to learn nonprofit operations while contributing to work that lowers costs, reduces carbon pollution, and strengthens communities. You will work closely with ACEEE’s leadership and collaborate with experts across the organization. The position will offer valuable experience in a range of nonprofit activities. In addition to carrying out the core responsibilities listed above, the assistant will be able to pursue opportunities for further growth in areas of greatest interest.

Core Responsibilities

Executive Support (~50%)

  • Manage calendars and schedule internal and external meetings for the Executive Director and COO.
  • Prepare agendas, meeting materials and minutes, and track follow-ups.
  • Assemble legal contracts and maintain organized files across Microsoft 365.

Board liaison (~25%)

  • Serve as the primary contact with ACEEE board members.
  • Manage the board website, coordinate meeting logistics, and schedule and organize meetings and other board events.

Staff engagement and committees (~25%)

  • Coordinate activities for staff committees, including the diversity, equity and inclusion committee and the social committee: schedule meetings, prepare meeting materials, and track action items.
  • Help organize in-person and online events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail, time-management, problem solving skills, task switching capabilities, and follow-through.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • High comfort with technology including Microsoft 365/Office, especially Teams, and ability to learn new technology platforms quickly, e.g., Salesforce and Asana.
  • Professionalism, discretion, and comfort working closely with people in leadership positions.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Preferred start date: July 2026, based in Washington, DC, with the opportunity to work remotely 1–2 days per week.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary range is $49,786 – $62,232. ACEEE’s generous benefits package includes health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance coverage; a 403(b) retirement plan; transportation and bike share benefits; three weeks of vacation in the first year and four weeks thereafter.
