Farm Equipment Mechanics and Service Technicians (49-3041.00)
Job Duties – Description of Specific Services or Labor Performed
The Agricultural Equipment Mechanic reports to the Production Supervisor and is responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of tractors and other agricultural equipment. This position requires specialized mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot equipment issues, identify cost-effective repair solutions, and perform preventative maintenance to ensure all equipment operates safely and efficiently.
Duties range from repairing electrical systems and diesel engines to welding and fabricating damaged components. The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining farm equipment in optimal working condition to support daily farming operations.
Essential Functions
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair agricultural equipment, including tractors, cultivators, compost spreaders, pressure nozzles, irrigation equipment, harvest equipment, forklifts, and other farm machinery.
Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing to minimize equipment downtime.
Repair gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, transmissions, and other mechanical components.
Examine equipment to identify mechanical defects using specialized diagnostic equipment and independent judgment.
Read and interpret equipment manuals, service bulletins, and technical specifications.
Disassemble, repair, reassemble, adjust, and lubricate machinery to ensure proper operation.
Perform welding and metal fabrication as needed to repair or modify equipment.
Install, repair, and maintain electrical wiring, motors, and related components.
Coordinate with the Parts Department to obtain replacement parts and maintain inventory levels.
Use precision measuring tools to inspect wear on internal engine and transmission components.
Assemble and install new agricultural machinery and equipment.
Test-drive vehicles and operate repaired equipment to verify safe and proper performance.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all company safety policies and procedures.
Assist other mechanics with troubleshooting and repairs as needed.
Collaborate with employees from other departments to complete repairs efficiently.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Work in outdoor environments exposed to varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, humidity, dust, and cold.
Work day or night shifts as operational needs require.
Be willing to learn new mechanical techniques and repair procedures to support farm operations.
The work environment may involve moderate to high noise levels and exposure to grease, oil, fuel, chemicals, and moving mechanical equipment.
Qualified employees may be asked to serve as team leaders. Employees possessing the appropriate driver's license may also be asked to transport workers between employer-provided housing and worksite locations.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
No minimum education requirement.
Experience
Minimum of six (6) months of experience as an agricultural equipment mechanic.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Applicants must be able to:
Diagnose and repair tractors, forklifts, harvest equipment, irrigation systems, sprayers, and other agricultural machinery.
Perform preventative maintenance and major engine overhauls.
Repair gasoline and diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and mechanical components.
Operate standard mechanic hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic equipment.
Read and understand equipment manuals and repair instructions.
Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
Applicants must provide satisfactory references from recent employers demonstrating comparable agricultural equipment repair experience.
Additional Requirements
Must possess a valid driver's license or obtain one within 30 days of hire.
Must maintain a clean driving record.
Must be physically capable of performing all essential job duties.
Must be able to work extended hours outdoors in extreme temperatures when necessary.
Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
Must be able to perform extensive standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, and repetitive motions.
