Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Action Center is leading an exciting and transformative initiative: the renovation and repurposing of a former Lakewood public school campus into The Daylight Collective, a collaborative community hub where multiple mission-aligned organizations can operate under one roof. The vision is simple but powerful—to design services around the needs of families, making it easier to access support, reducing barriers, and creating a more seamless experience for those seeking help.

The Action Center is hiring a Facilities Director to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the agency’s facilities, grounds, safety systems, and physical assets. This role leads a facilities team responsible for maintaining a safe, compliant, efficient, and welcoming environment for staff, clients, tenants, and visitors. The Director oversees facility operations, capital planning, vendor management, compliance, and long-term maintenance strategies while aligning facilities management with the Agency’s broader organizational goals. This is a highly collaborative role, working with other leaders of the agency to operationalize the Daylight Collective’s vision.

Requirements

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead and supervise a four-person facilities team responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of a 110,000-square-foot multi-tenant facility.

Facility Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee daily operations and maintenance of all Agency facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  • Lead the facilities team as the building owner/operator to deliver responsive and reliable facilities support to building tenants.
  • Develop preventive maintenance strategies to minimize operational disruptions and extend asset life.
  • Coordinate repairs, inspections, and building system upgrades.
  • Ensure regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and grounds to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and areas for improvement.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, building structures, elevators, boilers, and other facility infrastructure.
  • Manage janitorial, landscaping, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other contracted support services.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal building, fire, health, ADA, OSHA, and safety regulations.
  • Develop and maintain emergency preparedness and evacuation procedures.
  • Manage regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and grounds to identify safety hazards and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain records related to permits, inspections, and compliance requirements.
  • Responsible for the reliable operation of all safety and access control systems

Budget & Financial Management

  • Develop and manage facilities budgets, including maintenance, utilities, repairs, and capital expenditures.
  • Monitor expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Assist with long-term facility planning and capital improvement forecasting.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for leadership and board committees.

Support Services Management

  • Solicit bids and negotiate contracts with vendors and service providers.
  • Monitor vendor performance and ensure quality standards are met.
  • Maintain strong relationships with contractors and other support services such as facilities volunteers to build a comprehensive network of facilities support resources.

Project Management

  • Lead facility renovation, relocation, and construction projects.
  • Coordinate timelines, budgets, and stakeholder communication.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Staff Leadership

  • Supervise facilities, safety and security staff
  • Establish departmental goals, priorities, and performance standards.
  • Foster a culture of safety, responsiveness, accountability, and customer service within the facilities team.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and professional development for team members to ensure high performance and compliance with safety standards.

Sustainability & Asset Management

  • Collaborate with Agency leadership to align facilities operations with organizational goals and growth plans.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment, furniture, and facility assets.
  • Recommend improvements to optimize facility use and longevity.
  • Responsible for acquisition and disposition of agency physical assets

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of facilities or operations management experience.
  • Experience in a nonprofit, educational, healthcare, or community-based organization preferred.
  • Supervisory and project management experience required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and safety regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong budgeting, negotiation, and vendor management skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to interact effectively with staff, tenants, contractors, partners, and community stakeholders.
