Full job description

Principal Business Analyst – Velocigene

The Principal Business Analyst Velocigene, will work collaboratively with Research & Preclinical Development scientists, as well as other IT stakeholders, to understand and document scientific lab and data processes, and translate these into requirements for the development of data and technology solutions that support Regeneron’s scientific mission.

As a Principal Business Analyst, a typical day might include the following:

  • Translate business strategies, goals, and objectives into clear requirements; document problem statements with quantifiable business value
  • Document “as is” and “to be” business processes; identify, verify, and document functional and non-functional requirements using standard methodologies and tools
  • Map information system connections and data flows between systems; identify data elements and provide data mapping and data dictionaries
  • Write SQL statements to investigate data; understand data lake principles and different database types
  • Maintain and prioritize the backlog of requests; ensure the development team has absolute clarity on requirements; manage business stakeholder expectations
  • Work with scientists and laboratory personnel to understand business processes and suggest improvements; partner with research scientists and technical teams to define system goals and requirements
  • Pursue data quality issues to root cause; collaborate with business and IT partners to address issues intelligently
  • Handle a variety of tasks, effectively solve problems with complex variables, and shift priorities as needed in a fast-paced research environment

This role might be for you if:

  • You are passionate about solving complex, interesting problems in a science-driven environment and have a strong interest in contributing to biological research
  • You are proficient at clearly communicating—both verbally and in writing—with members at all levels of the organization, including technical and scientific personnel
  • You have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, welcome ideas from partners and stakeholders, and proactively seek to innovate
  • You are adaptable and attentive to detail, willing to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment while measuring the effectiveness of new features analytically

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have a minimum of a Master’s degree in a life science with experience in computer science or information technology, and 5–8+ years of experience in a research, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or scientific laboratory environment.

Previous experience in the biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical industry is required. We need someone who is adept at using a variety of tools (e.g., Laboratory Information Management Systems, SQL databases, data modeling frameworks) in order to perform business analysis, elicit and document requirements, map data flows, and drive data quality improvements in a research-focused environment. Previous experience with biological laboratory techniques, bioinformatics methods, relational database concepts, IT project and software development lifecycle methodologies, and managing or leading software development projects is preferred.
