We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to manage and continuously improve our end-to-end payroll processes. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll delivery while working closely with HR, Finance, and external stakeholders. You will operate in an environment that requires both adherence to global standards and sensitivity to local regulatory and operational requirements. You will be part of a team consisting of total 3 Payroll Specialists and 3 HR Business Partners.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for managing the full end-to-end payroll process, including data input, validation, execution of payments, and reporting. The role requires handling different types of compensation such as fixed salaries, bonuses, variable pay, and employee benefits, while ensuring accuracy through thorough reconciliation and control procedures. A key part of the role is maintaining alignment between payroll and DS Smith’s reward structures, including incentive programs such as different bonus schemes.
You will ensure compliance with local tax laws, labor regulations, and statutory requirements, while also maintaining GDPR and data security standards. Audit readiness, proper documentation, and statutory reporting will form an essential part of your responsibilities. In addition, you will work actively with HR, T&A and payroll systems, ensuring high data quality and robust validation processes, while supporting and improving integrations between HR and finance systems.
The role requires strong analytical capabilities, as you will be expected to analyze payroll data, identify discrepancies, and deliver accurate management reporting. You will also be expected to proactively identify opportunities for improvements, efficiencies and standardization across processes, while balancing global frameworks with local variations.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate brings solid experience from a similar payroll role, preferably within an international organization, and has a comprehensive understanding of payroll processes, compliance requirements, and compensation and benefits structures. You have proven experience managing end-to-end payroll operations and are comfortable working with complex data, multiple pay elements, and cross-functional stakeholders.
You possess a strong understanding of relevant tax legislation, labor regulations, and statutory reporting obligations, combined with practical experience ensuring compliance and supporting audit processes. Experience working with payroll systems and HRIS platforms is essential, as is the ability to manage data quality and system integrations effectively.
You demonstrate advanced Excel and reporting skills and have a strong analytical mindset that enables you to identify inconsistencies, interpret payroll data, and provide actionable insights. A structured and detail-oriented approach, combined with a high level of integrity and confidentiality, is critical for success in this role.
