The Therapist II independently makes treatment and level of care decisions, providing complete patient assessments and implementing therapeutic intervention plans. They collaborate with physician partners and coordinate the entire treatment process through to discharge planning.
A graduate degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling and a valid license (LPC, LCSW, Clinic Psychologist, or LMFT) are required. Candidates must have at least 2 years of relevant experience and obtain BLS and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certifications within 3 months of hire.

The Therapist II is responsible for making treatments and level of care decisions independently. They collaborate as needed with their physician partners. The Therapist II provides complete patient assessments, plans for therapeutic interventions and appropriate follow up care, implementing treatment plans, coordination of the treatment process and discharge planning. Also demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the age and cultural diversity of the patients served. In addition, the therapist will uphold and demonstrate the UVA Mission, Vision and Values: Compassion, Diversity, Personal Excellence, and Teamwork. The Therapist II reports to the Supervisor of Behavioral Health Therapy and/or Manager of Behavioral Health Operations.
Graduate Degree required. Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related field.
2 year of relevant experience required. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
LPC, LCSW, Clinic Psychologist, or LMFT required. Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification required within 3 months of hire. BLS required within 3 months of hire.
Good working knowledge of computers. Ability to care for Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse age specific populations.
Medium to Heavy Physical Demand: The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment. Therapist I: The base compensation for this role is $40.09 hourly.
Therapist II: The base compensation for this role is $46.76 hourly.
Please note that the pay rate does not include any applicable incentive compensation programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives that may be available for those in eligible positions.
