This role is ideal for someone comfortable working in a mature Android codebase that mixes modern Kotlin development with established Java and XML-based patterns, while continuing to evolve toward Jetpack Compose and cleaner architecture. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, secure, and accessible mobile experiences for users managing critical health and financial benefits.
If you live near Eden Prairie, MN or Hartford, CT, you will enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid-remote role as you take on some tough challenges.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Build, maintain, and enhance Android features across account management, payments, transactions, receipts, document delivery, support, notifications, and secure webview flows
- Develop mobile features using Kotlin and Java with Android Studio, Gradle Kotlin DSL, AndroidX, ViewBinding, XML layouts, and Jetpack Compose
- Integrate front-end designs with REST APIs using Retrofit, OkHttp, Jackson/Gson, and RxJava
- Architect scalable code using ViewModels, repositories, LiveData/Rx streams, and dependency injection using Hilt
- Implement and support secure mobile experiences involving biometrics, encrypted storage, deep links, camera/document scanning, push notifications, and sensitive user data
- Maintain app quality through writing and executing unit tests, instrumentation tests, linting, ktlint, SonarQube, Kover coverage, and CI/CD pipelines
- Collaborate with product, design, QA, backend, security, and release teams in an enterprise mobile environment
- Monitor and improve production stability using Firebase Crashlytics, Firebase Performance, Datadog RUM/session replay, and analytics tooling
- Support release builds, product flavors, ProGuard/R8, signing, Firebase configuration, and Google Play Store readiness
- Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, and drive continuous improvement
You’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear directions on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (OR 4+ years of professional software development experience)
- 3+ years of professional Android mobile development experience using Kotlin and/or Java
- 2+ years of experience with Jetpack Compose as well as traditional Android Views, XML layouts, fragments, activities, and ViewBinding
- 2+ years of experience with REST API integration using tools such as Retrofit, OkHttp, and JSON serialization
- Professional experience working with Android Architecture Components (ViewModel, LiveData, Repositories) and lifecycle-aware development
- Professional experience with Gradle builds, including build variants/flavors, dependency management, and mobile release configurations
- Professional experience utilizing Firebase services (such as Analytics, Messaging, Crashlytics, and Performance Monitoring)
- Professional experience implementing mobile security practices (such as encrypted storage, biometric authentication, permissions, or network security configurations)
- Professional experience writing Android tests using JUnit, Mockito, Espresso, or similar mobile testing tools
- Experience working in a collaborative team environment, maintaining and incrementally modernizing a large-scale codebase without disrupting production behavior
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Hilt, KSP, RxJava 2, WorkManager, ML Kit document scanning, Datadog, Adobe Analytics/Target, Qualtrics, or LivePerson messaging
- Experience working in banking, fintech, healthcare, benefits, insurance, or other highly regulated enterprise domains
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, SonarQube, code coverage tooling, ktlint, ProGuard/R8, and enterprise artifact repositories
