Under the general supervision of Assistant Director of Admissions & Enrollment, the Admissions Counselor supports the admissions and recruitment operations of George Mason University Korea. The position provides admissions counseling to prospective students and families, manages applicant records and supporting documents, and represents Mason Korea through domestic and international recruitment activities.

The Admissions Counselor is responsible for reviewing applications, coordinating admissions testing, supporting recruitment events, and maintaining timely communication with prospective students and applicants. The position also coordinates Work & Study student staff and collaborates with internal stakeholders and George Mason University Fairfax. The role requires strong communication, organization, attention to detail, professionalism, and discretion in handling confidential student information, as well as willingness to travel for recruitment activities.

Key Responsibilities

Admissions Operations & Case Management

• Manage Patriot Connect cases, ensuring accurate and timely processing of applicant records.
• Manage admission supporting documents, including collection, verification, and filing.
• Review applications in accordance with established admissions criteria and timelines.
• Provide admissions counseling to prospective students and families via phone and walk-in inquiries.

Recruitment & Territory Management

• Counsel in person and tele-counsel with prospective students to encourage campus visits as well as application submission, and maintain appropriate follow-up communication with these students and their families regarding the status of their applications for admission.
• Support recruitment events, including on/off-campus admission information sessions and college fairs.

Versant Test Operation

• Manage Versant account, test scheduling and coordination for applicants.
• Supervise and coordinate Work & Study student staff supporting the A&E office.

Communications & General Support

• Assist with all forms of communication with prospective students/families, administration, faculty, staff, and George Mason Fairfax.
• Provide general support for other Admissions & Enrollment operations as needed.
• Assume other duties as requested by the Assistant Director of Admissions & Enrollment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum of two years of professional work experience at Mason Korea.
  
  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Basic understanding of college admissions processes and recruitment principles, or willingness to learn.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally to represent the University at college fairs, high school visits, and other recruitment events.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with high school counselors, teachers, parents, and prospective students.
• Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with students and families in person, by phone, and through email.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential student information with discretion and professionalism.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to follow established procedures for application review and document management.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and respond to incoming inquiries (phone, email, walk-in) in a fast-paced office environment.
• Team-oriented mindset, with the ability to support recruitment events and collaborate with colleagues across the office.
• Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with office software and willingness to learn admissions systems (e.g., Patriot Connect).
• Bilingual proficiency in Korean and English preferred.
