Crisis Intervention Worker 

Permanent PT – Nights 

 

 

What We Do 

 

WIN House provides individuals and their children fleeing violence crisis response and intervention, safe temporary accommodation, and support for basic needs. Clients are offered trauma-informed, client-centered programming and support, access to resources, information, and referrals to community support. WIN House is working towards operating within a low-barrier model of care.  

 

 

What You Will Do  

 

The Crisis Intervention Worker (CIW) plays an integral role within the WIN House team and contributes to the success of the organization by promoting client wellbeing, independence, and success. 

 

The CIW regularly demonstrates initiative and proactively undertakes the following key responsibilities:  

  • Providing care and support via telephone and in person to clients and children in a professional manner 
  • Engaging in daily shelter operational activities 
  • Helping clients in transitioning, admitting, and orientating within the shelter 
  • Supporting clients with outreach including transporting/accompanying clients and children out of shelter as needed 
  • Assisting in child-care support and provision of basic needs of children within the shelter 
  • Proactively engaged in all aspects of client-centered case-management and goal development planning 
  • Engaging in resource and information management 
  • Engaging in ongoing learning and professional development 
  • Participation in health and safety 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Who You Are 

 

Qualifications include: 

  • Diploma/degree in Human Services, and three years’ experience working with women and children experiencing family violence who may have complex needs. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.  
  • The ideal candidate will have an organized and compassionate approach, strong teamwork skills, and a commitment to developing positive supporting relationships.  
  • Additional requirements include excellent communication skills, the ability to collaborate and work effectively with others and demonstrated assessment, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.  
  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles and practices, violence against women, danger assessment, safety planning, and trauma-informed care are also essential. The ability to speak multiple languages is preferred. 
  • Ability to work without a supervisor at times and in a fast paced and stress-induced environment. 

 

The Details 

 

This position is available at WIN I with an immediate start date. It falls within the scope of the collective agreement with CUPE Local 3341. Hours of work are from 23:30 -07:30 working four days on and four off, on an 8-week rotation. The starting hourly wage is $28.74 as per conditions outlined in the Collective Agreement. 

 

 

Prerequisites 

 

The successful candidate will be required to submit a Criminal Record Check including a vulnerable sector check, a current Child Welfare check, hold a current First Aid Certificate, and must be willing to sign an Oath of Confidentiality.
