Job Overview

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty safely and satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. A successful maintenance technician must have a high level of work commitment, be quality-driven, have attention to detail, be easily approachable by all team members, and have the ability to troubleshoot equipment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical and electrical background, with the ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain complex machinery by interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals. This role involves performing root cause analysis (RCA) to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment, dismantles machines or equipment, and replaces defective parts and motors, and adjusts as necessary.
  • Listens to unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunctions and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problems or repair machine.
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery, and replaces or repairs machine belts.
  • Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment, and drills holes in walls, floors, and ceilings for electrical connections.
  • Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
  • Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other metal structures.
  • Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
  • Connects wires to motors, fixtures, and other electrical equipment, replaces switches and fuses, and splices wire and insulates wire with friction tape.
  • Cuts openings in walls, ceilings, and floors for pipes, and seals pipe joints with sealing compound.
  • Cuts out and joins parts for worktables, benches, shelves, and other furnishings.
  • Able to proficiently operate a manual mill and lathe.
  • Construct, rebuild, and repair machines that will help continue meeting our goals in process improvement.

Reasoning Skills: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and present information to the management team. Must have exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Physical Job Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Frequent: Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting (up to 50 lbs), pushing, pulling, and moving items: Requires the ability to move around the plant and maneuver product when necessary
  • Frequent: Walking and Standing (up to, but not limited to 8 hours): Requires moving around the plant to perform duties and assist coworkers
  • Visual requirements: ability to visually perform maintenance tasks.
  • Identifying and reading equipment manuals: Requires recognizing and identifying, and using necessary plans, reports, and other informational resources
  • Climbing Ladders: Requires being able to climb a rolling ladder, up to 10 feet.
  • Use of equipment tools: including hand tools, power tools (i.e., saws), air-driven tools (i.e., stapler), and measuring devices (calipers, measuring cup, bar code measurement tool)
  • Ability to operate a forklift: upon completion of in-house certification, man lift, and scissors lift
  • Wear required safety equipment: when appropriate/necessary/required
  • Must be able to use hands to handle or touch objects, tools, or controls

Work Environmental Job Requirements

The work environmental characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.

  • Indoor work environment without air conditioning.
  • In the warehouse environment employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles
  • Floors around the work area may become slippery
  • Doors are frequently opened, causing drafts and interior temperature changes
  • Internal warehouse temperature can fluctuate (cold to warm) depending on weather conditions
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, where hearing protection is optional but available.
  • This position requires the ability to work 40-45 hours a week, including nights and weekends (as needed).
  • You will also be required to fulfill on-call duties for repairs and assistance.

Qualifications

  • An associate degree in Electro-Mechanical Technology, Mechatronics, industrial maintenance, or related technical field, which includes at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and manuals, along with knowledge of industrial equipment, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to use Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and strict adherence to safety protocols (Lockout/Tagout).
  • Preference given to candidates with Journeyman Millwright certification or equivalent experience, encompassing machinery installation, maintenance, alignment, and preventive maintenance execution
  • Preference given to maintenance technicians with manufacturing experience, including production tooling optimization (dies, molds, fixtures), manual machining, TIG/MIG welding, and precision measurement.
  • Reliance on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Requires the ability to operate a variety of machinery, small hand tools, and precision measuring devices.
