SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL: This position is eligible for $1.00 per hour shift differential pay for hours worked during designated evening and weekend shifts in accordance with university guidelines.

Purpose:
As a Catering Zero Waste Student Manager, you will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing our zero waste program for campus events. This position involves overseeing zero waste education to create a holistic and experiential learning environment for catering student employees and clients. You will contribute to the mission of promoting zero waste operations across the UT Austin community.
Job Responsibilities:
Must be available to work during Summer 2026, Fall 2026, and Spring 2027
Direct student staff in all aspects of event management, including zero‑waste operations
Improve the efficiency of UHD waste‑management processes
Conduct waste audits at events; record and transmit data for event media
Support Longhorn Hospitality’s goal of achieving zero waste
Expand zero‑waste educational opportunities on the UT campus
Develop training for Longhorn Hospitality student staff
Serve as point of contact with clients and guests for zero‑waste events
Run pre‑event shift meetings; assign roles, schedule breaks, and organize service‑area tasks
Complete UT driver training for university vehicles; log travel and fuel use; report repair needs
Receive FAST certification and communicate allergen information to catering staff
Inventory equipment and stock weekly; track movement and storage of trash bins, linens, and waste‑management equipment
Required Qualifications:
Some experience with sustainability concepts

Compensation:
$15.00 / hour
Working Conditions
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs as part of daily duties
Comfortable with working outdoors in varying weather conditions
Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends based on operational needs
Comfort handling trash and food waste
