The Editor manages the editorial staff and oversees the conception, planning, and execution of content for the Bethesda Today news site and newsletters. They are responsible for maintaining high ethical standards while collaborating with the Publisher on events and community engagement.
Candidates must have at least 10 years of experience as a multi-media editor in a breaking news environment. They must reside in the Washington, D.C. area and possess strong skills in writing, editing, and nurturing talent.

The Editor is responsible for conception, planning and managing content for the Bethesda Today news site and corresponding email newsletters. Bethesda Today is looking for a versatile and talented Editor who adheres to the highest journalistic standards and is passionate about local news. Bethesda Today is owned by Today Media, a leading publisher of regional lifestyle magazines, business publications, and websites across multiple markets.
· Manage the editorial staff
· Develop, assign, and edit stories
· Engage with sources and monitor social media to stay up to date on news and trends in the community
· Collaborate with Publisher to conceive, plan, and participate in events
· Represent the organization at events and in membership campaigns
· Employ digital reader data and news judgment to inform editorial decisions
· Conceive and execute new editorial ideas and products
· Ensure that the news site maintains the highest editorial and ethical standards

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, reliability, and punctuality are essential, along with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members to support individual and organizational success.
Requirements
· At least 10 years of experience as a multi-media editor in a breaking news environment
· Excellent writing and editing skills, news judgment, and audience sensibility
· Experience and expertise presenting news stories using written word, video, and social media
· Proven track record of innovation
· Strong record recruiting and nurturing talent
· Live in the Washington, D.C. area (preferably in Montgomery County, Maryland), and have a strong commitment to local journalism and to serving the community
· Organized, deadline-oriented and scrupulous attention to detail
Salary range is $75,000-$100,000. Benefits include PTO, 401K, medical, dental, vision, life, and HSA/FSA.
