Threshold is a national housing charity, providing housing advice to help solve housing problems and prevent homelessness to anyone who needs our help nationwide. We provide a free confidential telephone helpline that operates daily from 9am-9pm and face to face appointment service in our three regional offices. We have 40 years experience of preventing homelessness, campaigning for the rights of tenants and standards in rented accommodation, challenging illegal rent reviews and calling for greater security of tenure for all those renting. In 2017, Threshold’s frontline services protected more than 4,000 tenancies last year nationwide. By providing advocacy, advice, Residential Tenancy Board representation and our Tenancy Protection Service, Threshold helped an average of 364 households a month to remain in their homes in 2017 and without our vital interventions, the homeless figures would be much higher. Threshold is increasingly being contacted by employers as many of their employees are struggling to find affordable private rented accommodation or experiencing problems within their tenancy. Threshold can help by providing accessible lunchtime information sessions, one on one advice clinics and ongoing support. Threshold delivers training to a diverse range of statutory and non-statutory bodies including Citizens Information Centres, Union of Students Ireland and local authorities such as Fingal County Council. Threshold also delivers training to representative bodies such as trade unions and human resource departments of companies on behalf of their members and employees. Threshold can also deliver training to property agents and landlords of privately rented accommodation. Our training sessions are also beneficial for employers and their employees who may be renting.
