The center focuses on the study of textiles, material culture, and design and is a hub for innovative programs that engage local, national, and international audiences. The Helen Louise Allen Textile Collection, the Ruth Davis Design Gallery, and the Lynn Mecklenburg Textile Gallery support the work of the Nancy M. Bruce Center for Design and Material Culture.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
JOB DESCRIPTION: For the 2026-27 academic year, this graduate student will work with the Nancy M. Bruce Center for Design and Material Culture to build and implement center-wide structures for communication. This position will aid in the refresh and realignment of the center’s communication goals. The center has a robust group of staff, faculty, students, community members, and scholars who engage with exhibitions, the Helen Louise Allen Textile Collection, and the many events and programs hosted through the center each year.
This student will then work with the Senior Operations Manager to assess center communication practice and aid in creating and implementing new communication initiatives. This could include cleaning and transferring the marketing automation tool to a new program, assisting in the creation of a broader media strategy, supporting storytelling for fellows within the center, and begin identifying publications that reflect the research happening within the center and the Design Studies department.
Duties include: • Support new communication initiatives between the center, center fellows, and the Design Studies department, including media training workshops and procedure planning • Lead migration to new marketing automation tool • Support the Senior Operations Manager in assessing and revising the center’s media and outreach strategy, including in aiding with press releases, media kits, outlets and journalist lists, newsletters, and social media plan • Support UW Wisc web migration and assist with updates for the center’s site • Review campus accessibility standard for web content and programs, and create an assessment of center accessibility • Other duties as assigned by the center Executive Director or Senior Operations Manager
This position may be conducted as an internship if conditions are mutually agreed upon.
