Job Description Summary:
The Assistant Professor in the Division of Palliative Medicine at The University of Kansas Medical Center provides high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered palliative care services across inpatient and outpatient settings. This position is jointly employed by The University of Kansas Medical Center and The University of Kansas Health System and supports the clinical, educational, research, and service missions of both institutions. The faculty member is responsible for the comprehensive management of patients with serious and life-limiting illnesses, including symptom management, goals-of-care discussions, advance care planning, psychosocial support, and interdisciplinary care coordination.
In addition to clinical responsibilities, the faculty member actively participates in the education and training of learners, including medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals. The individual contributes to departmental and divisional academic activities through teaching, scholarly engagement, quality improvement initiatives, committee service, and other efforts that advance the missions of the division, department, and institution.

Job Duties:
Provide specialized palliative care consultation and management services using current, evidence-based practices to improve quality of life for patients and families facing serious illness.
Deliver comprehensive palliative care services across inpatient, outpatient, and other clinical settings as assigned.
Conduct symptom assessment and management, facilitate goals-of-care conversations, advance care planning, and support complex medical decision-making.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient-centered care.
Contribute to the education, training, supervision, and mentorship of medical students, residents, fellows, and other learners through clinical teaching, didactic instruction, and scholarly activities.
Participate in departmental and divisional meetings, case conferences, teaching rounds, quality improvement initiatives, seminars, and other academic activities as assigned.
Engage in scholarly activities, research, quality improvement, program development, and/or community outreach efforts that advance the field of palliative medicine.

Certifications/Licenses:
Eligible for or licensed to practice medicine in the State of Kansas.
Board certified or board eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
