Full job description

About Saluda Medical

Saluda Medical was founded in 2013 for the purpose of transforming patients’ lives with disruptive neuromodulation solutions. We are leaders in the field with proven exceptional pain management results and, with more than 10 years of advanced research development and clinical experience, we design and develop advanced neuromodulation systems for the next generation of implantable stimulation devices

About the role

We are seeking a Graduate Electrical Engineer to join our Sydney engineering team, supporting the development of innovative active implantable medical devices and associated accessories.

This is an entry-level role designed for early-career engineers who are keen to build strong technical capability while contributing to safety critical products. You will work under the guidance of experienced engineers and gain exposure across the full product lifecycle, from design and development through to verification and manufacturing support.

Graduates will have the opportunity to develop skills in one or more electrical engineering specialisations, including Embedded Firmware, RF Systems, PCB Design, or Mixed-Signal ASICs, depending on your background and interests.

As we are a Class III Medical Device company, documentation is a key component of this role, strong written skills are essential in combination with strong technical skills.

This is a 12 month Fixed Term Contract, expecting to start this year July/August timeframe with some flexibility.

Salary range is 75-85k.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of electrical and electronic subsystems for implantable and external medical devices
  • Assist with technical tasks across one or more specialisation areas (firmware, RF, PCB, or ASIC) under supervision
  • Preparation of technical documentation, including requirements, specifications, and test procedures
  • Participate in design reviews (schematic, layout, firmware, and system level) and learn to apply engineering feedback
  • Assist with debugging, testing, and basic root cause analysis during development activities
  • Support verification and validation activities, including executing test protocols and recording results
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems, mechanical, quality, regulatory, and manufacturing
  • Clearly communicate technical information and progress to team members
  • Ensure work aligns with safety, quality, and regulatory standards appropriate to medical devices

Technical streams

Strengths required in one or more stream: Candidates are expected to demonstrate strong technical foundations in at least one of the following areas:

RF and Wireless Systems

  • Design and integration of Bluetooth or other RF systems
  • Antenna integration, coexistence, and EMC considerations
  • Supporting RF compliance and regulatory testing

PCB Design and Layout

  • Schematic capture and multi‑layer PCB design
  • Layout for mixed‑signal, low‑noise, and RF‑sensitive systems
  • Design for manufacturability and test

Embedded Firmware

  • Embedded programming (e.g. C)
  • Developing firmware for low‑power or safety‑critical systems
  • Hardware‑software integration and debugging

Mixed‑Signal ASIC Development

  • Specifying, designing, or supporting analog / mixed‑signal ASICs
  • Front‑end analog design, data converters, power management, and signal integrity
  • Working with ASIC vendors or design houses

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline (recent graduate or graduating within 12 months)
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of electronics and engineering principles
  • Exposure to at least one relevant area (firmware, RF, PCB, or ASIC) through coursework, projects, or internships
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and willingness to learn
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborative mindset and attention to detail

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with programming (e.g. C, Python)
  • Familiarity with electronics lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc.)
  • Exposure to PCB design tools or simulation tools (e.g. LTspice)
  • Internship, co-op, or project experience in engineering
  • Awareness or experience in regulated environments or medical device standards (e.g. ISO 13485, IEC 62304)

At Saluda, we challenge boundaries. We innovate and think beyond the conventional. We disrupt.

Are you Ready to Join? If you would like to be part of our team developing the world's next generation of implantable device technology, contribute to making an impact on patient care, then this is the opportunity for you! Please APPLY NOW!

Applications will only be considered from candidates with the appropriate approval to work in Australia, no visa or sponsorship is available for this role.

All eligible candidates are invited to apply. We respectfully ask for no agency approaches.
