Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will perform molecular biology and biochemical techniques to support the discovery of genetically encoded small molecules. Responsibilities also include preparing reagents, performing experiments with lab members, and maintaining accurate records.

Requirements

Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or a related field with at least one year of molecular biology lab experience. A Master's degree with an emphasis in chemical biology and NMR experience is preferred.

Organization Overview

Researchers in the Laboratory of Genetically Encoded Small Molecules are working on projects related to the human microbiome, bacterial small molecules, and host-microbial interactions. The lab's research is focused on identifying bacterial genes, pathways, and molecules that influence host-cellular functions and developing these host-microbial interactions into novel treatments for human disease. To this end, we focus on three major areas of research: 1) high throughput screening of bacterial metabolites and genes to identify effector functions, 2) mouse models of inflammatory and metabolic diseases, and 3) in vivo validation of bacterial metabolites and genes in human cohorts.
Overview

We are looking for a full-time Research Assistant to aid in postdoc and research associate experiments used in the discovery and characterization of new, genetically encoded small molecules from microbial sources.


Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform basic moelcular biology and biochemical techniques (PCR, protein purification, enzymatic assays)
  • Perfom experiments with lab members
  • Retreive packages and dry ice
  • Prepare solutions and reagents for lab members
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or a closely related field
  • A minimum of 1 year of lab experience using molecular biology techniques
  • Proficient with computer and versatile in lab instrumentation
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate records and follow standard operating procedures
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced research environment

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree with an educational emphasis in chemical biology and NMR experience
