About Us

Citizen Media Group is an IRS-registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which serves as the go-to voice for how to live well and do good in Philadelphia across its two publications: The Philadelphia Citizen and Philadelphia magazine.
Philadelphia magazine is a trusted chronicler of life in and around America’s greatest city that celebrates the people, places, history, food, culture and vibrant communities that make up our region. The Philadelphia Citizen uses solutions journalism, thought-leader events and calls to action to revive democracy and citizenship in the American city where they were born.

Our team is curious, collaborative, and driven by continuous improvement — we embrace change, solve problems without blame, and move work forward with urgency, optimism, and accountability. We care deeply about serving our audience and our city, and value teammates who communicate with transparency and respect, assume good intentions, and are committed to making Philadelphia better through their work.

 Position Overview

The Digital Ad Operations & Marketing Specialist is a dynamic, dual-focused role that serves as the central operational owner for digital advertising fulfillment while actively driving email marketing, client sales support, and community membership initiatives.

On the operational side, this individual owns the day-to-day execution, trafficking, pacing, and reporting of digital advertising campaigns across multiple platforms. On the marketing and membership side, they serve as a primary driver for audience acquisition, membership engagement, and the creation of clean, aesthetic sales materials.

Responsibilities
Digital Ad Operations & Campaign Fulfillment
  • Manage, monitor, and optimize display advertising products (ROS, sponsorships, takeovers, video ads, and audience extension campaigns) across site placements and third-party vendors.
  • Coordinate newsletter, eblast, sponsored content, native traffic driver, and social advertising fulfillment across internal and external platforms, ensuring quality assurance on client creative. Manage advertising assets, specifications, launch schedules, and workflows.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with fulfillment vendors (e.g., Site Impact, AdCellerant, Nativo, Primis, Infolinks, Freestar).
  • Support GAM entries and reporting when needed.
Marketing and Membership Management
  • Drive Philadelphia magazine and The Philadelphia Citizen’s membership program (Change Philly Movement). Manage the member platform, portal posts, monthly email updates, and marketing strategies for new member acquisition to foster an active, engaged civic community. Staff the membership table at in-person events, turning guests into members.
  • Partner with the sales and creative teams to develop, update, and coordinate major media kits, reference materials, and marketing assets. Support Philadelphia magazine’s in-book Special Sections sales marketing by requesting creative, deploying emails, and coordinating marketing kits.
  • Update and improve email drip campaigns and automation workflows. Execute creative campaigns to retarget prospects, event attendees, and other who have engaged with either publication.
Data, Analytics & Reporting
  • Track, analyze, and report on campaign performance using data, KPIs, conversion tracking, and dashboard reporting to optimize digital ad results.
  • Fulfill Client Service data requests on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintain the Audience Dashboard, providing monthly reports, campaign-level performance analysis, and quarterly board reports.
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years in digital media marketing, audience development, or similar role.
  • Expertise in Google Ad Manager (GAM), Google Analytics (GA4), Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager, and email marketing platforms.
  • Foundational design skills (Adobe Creative Cloud) with a strong eye for marketing aesthetics, user experience, and the ability to assess client materials for quality and specifications.
  • Excellent written communication skills for writing clever, engaging member emails, portal posts, and audience-facing brand messaging.
  • Experience managing SEO, SEM, paid social, display advertising, and audience targeting.
  • Comfort with experimenting, trying new marketing tactics, and following data trends.
  • Gregarious, hospitable, and energized by connecting with people around civic engagement, community impact, and media brands.
Other Information

This is a hybrid role requiring in-person collaboration at our Center City office every Tuesday and Wednesday. The remainder of the week is primarily remote, with the requirement to attend in-person community and partner events, which may occasionally occur on evenings and weekends.
Citizen Media Group provides a comprehensive benefits package which includes health, vision and life insurance, and access to a 401(k) plan, in addition to base salary.
