Position Summary

The Dual Property Chief Engineer provides leadership and operational oversight for the engineering and facilities functions at both the Courtyard by Marriott Baton Rouge and the Residence Inn Baton Rouge. This role is responsible for the physical integrity, safety compliance, preventative maintenance, and day-to-day mechanical operations of both properties. The Chief Engineer manages the engineering team, administers vendor relationships, oversees the departmental budget, and serves as the primary point of contact for all facilities-related matters across both hotels. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role that requires both technical proficiency and strong people management skills.

What You'll Do

Facilities Operations and Maintenance

  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance program covering all hotel equipment, mechanical systems, and physical plant assets across both properties.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety, and building envelope systems to ensure continuous, safe operation.
  • Ensure all emergency and life safety equipment, including fire suppression, alarm systems, and emergency lighting, is inspected, tested, and certified in accordance with PAH standards and applicable code requirements.
  • Respond to all facility alarms promptly; assess location, cause, and emergency status, report findings to the front desk, and take immediate corrective action as warranted.
  • Ensure that guest room and common area maintenance requests are completed in a timely, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Develop and maintain plans to keep all property, equipment, grounds, and other physical assets in sound and presentable condition.
  • Assist with special projects, capital improvements, and property renovations as directed.

Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure both properties remain in full compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, ADA, EPA, and Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality requirements.
  • Maintain and update required permits, inspection records, and certifications for all regulated systems and equipment.
  • Lead and actively participate in the PAH Safety Committee; champion a culture of safety awareness and accountability across both engineering teams.
  • Ensure ADA compliance is maintained across all accessible areas and guest-facing facilities.
  • Identify and mitigate environmental, health, and safety risks proactively; document and report hazards and corrective actions.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Recruit, hire, supervise, and develop engineering associates across both properties, setting clear performance expectations and providing regular coaching and feedback.
  • Create, approve, and post all engineering department schedules in accordance with business needs and PAH standards.
  • Train engineering staff on customer service standards, safety protocols, brand standard operating procedures, and loss prevention practices.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support associate development and career growth within the department.
  • Foster a team culture aligned with PAH values, maintaining high morale and accountability across both properties.

Financial and Administrative Management

  • Develop and manage the annual engineering budget for both properties, monitoring expenditures and identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
  • Prepare financial forecasts and actively participate in monthly profit and loss review meetings.
  • Administer all vendor contracts managed by the engineering department, including service agreements, warranty programs, and contractor relationships.
  • Review guest and meeting planner feedback regularly to identify recurring maintenance-related concerns and ensure timely resolution.
  • Actively support and participate in energy conservation and sustainability programs across both properties.
  • Maintain accurate records for all maintenance activities, inspections, work orders, and regulatory filings.

What You Bring

Required

  • Minimum of five years of progressive facilities or engineering management experience in a hotel or related hospitality setting; or a four-year degree in a related field with at least one year of management experience; or a two-year degree with at least three years of related management experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations, and general building maintenance.
  • Stationary Engineer's license or other applicable certification if required by local code.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage, motivate, and develop a diverse team.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, equipment manuals, and technical specifications.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory compliance requirements applicable to hotel facilities, including OSHA, ADA, and relevant local codes.
  • Valid driver's license for the state of Louisiana.

Preferred

  • Experience managing engineering operations across multiple hotel properties simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with Marriott brand standards and engineering compliance requirements.
  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS) or energy management systems.
  • Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or work order tracking platforms.
  • EPA 608 Certification (refrigerant handling) or other applicable trade certifications.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • This position is based on-site across two adjacent properties in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Regular movement between locations is expected throughout the workday.
  • Requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier loads with assistance.
  • Work environment includes mechanical rooms, rooftops, and outdoor settings; exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, and mechanical hazards is expected.
  • On-call availability for emergency situations outside of regular scheduled hours is required.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by task and safety standards.
