Serving the Northland region of Kansas City, NSC provides a wide range of services including Meals on Wheels, transportation, caregiver support, social engagement programs, and access to essential resources. Through a combination of professional staff and a strong network of volunteers, NSC empowers older adults to age with dignity, connection, and purpose.

The Executive Director provides strategic, financial, and operational leadership for NSC. Reporting to the Board of Directors, this role drives fundraising growth, oversees programs and staff, and serves as the organization’s primary ambassador in the community. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker and strong fundraiser who thrives in a community-facing position, leads with both heart and accountability, and is passionate about advancing services that make a tangible difference in the lives of older adults.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate and steward relationships with donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
  • Oversee donor database (CRM) to track performance and drive growth.
  • Lead or support grant writing and proposal development efforts.
  • Provide strategic direction for fundraising events and secure high-level sponsorships.
  • Maintain and evolve a compelling case for support aligned with organizational priorities.

Financial Management & Fiscal Sustainability:

  • Ensure strong fiscal health through oversight of budgeting, cash flow, and financial planning.
  • Develop and manage the annual operating budget in alignment with strategic goals.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, 501(c)(3) regulations, and funding requirements.
  • Provide transparent and timely financial reporting to the Board and Finance Committee.
  • Maintain internal financial controls and safeguard organizational assets.

Community Engagement & Public Relations:

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson and public face of NSC.
  • Build relationships with community leaders, stakeholders, and funders.
  • Strengthen communications across digital platforms, media, and public presentations.
  • Communicate organizational impact through storytelling and outreach.

Program Optimization & Evaluation:

  • Partner with program leadership to design, implement, and evaluate impactful services.
  • Ensure programs are safe, effective, and responsive to community needs.
  • Monitor service data, outcomes, and utilization to inform decision-making.
  • Drive marketing efforts to increase program awareness and participation.
  • Build partnerships to enhance services and avoid duplication.

Board Governance & Support:

  • Collaborate with the Board to ensure strong governance and strategic alignment.
  • Support board development, recruitment, and committee engagement.
  • Facilitate strategic planning and goal-setting processes.
  • Maintain compliance with bylaws and organizational policies.

Visionary Personnel Management:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of staff and volunteers.
  • Oversee hiring, performance management, and compensation practices.
  • Foster a positive, mission-driven organizational culture.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience; prior nonprofit experience is ideal.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, including grants, major gifts, and diversified revenue streams.
  • Proven ability to create, manage, and analyze budgets and financials.
  • Outstanding presentation, communication, and proposal writing skills; comfortable serving as lead spokesperson, relationship builder, and fundraiser.
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to motivate, manage, and develop teams and work closely with a Board of Directors.
  • Coalition building skills with the ability to build and sustain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Passion for serving older adults and a commitment to NSC’s mission.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree (MPA, MBA, or Nonprofit Management) preferred.
