Newmont’s Merian operation in Suriname is an open pit gold mine approximately 66km south of the town Moengo and 30 km north of the Nassau Mountains near the French Guiana. Provide legal counsel on a broad range of areas, including litigation, commercial law, land, employment, safety, and sustainability, under the guidance of a Director, Legal /Head, Legal
In this role, the individual will:
Law degree and licensed to practice in applicable jurisdiction(s).Strong understanding of a broad range of legal issues, laws, and regulations. Experience in mining or a global, multinational environment is a plus.
Understanding of mining-related laws and issues, Legal trends, and legislative changes
Competent proficiency to apply independent judgment and specialized legal knowledge/experience when addressing complex issues. Competent proficiency in collaborating and partnering with internal and external stakeholders.
Competent proficiency in identifying and mitigating legal risks. Competent proficiency in negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Advanced English (spoken and written), Dutch preferred.
This position is located at the Paramaribo office.
