As L.A.'s premier performing arts destination, The Music Center convenes artists, communities and ideas with the goal of deepening the cultural lives of every resident in Los Angeles County. The $80 million non-profit performing arts organization has three divisions: TMC Arts, TMC Ops and TMC Business Services. TMC Arts, The Music Center’s programming engine, provides year-round programming inside The Music Center’s four theatres, which include Walt Disney Concert Hall, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Ahmanson Theatre and Mark Taper Forum; on Jerry Moss Plaza; outside at Gloria Molina Grand Park, a 12-acre adjacent green space; and in schools and neighborhoods all over Los Angeles County. TMC Arts presents world-class dance with Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center, free and low-cost public concerts and events, as well as K–12 arts learning programs, workshops, performances, interactive experiences and special events. TMC Ops manages the theatres, Jerry Moss Plaza and Gloria Molina Grand Park, which comprise $3 billion in county assets, on behalf of the County of Los Angeles. TMC Business Services includes Advancement, Human Resources, Finance, Tech Services, and Marketing and Communications. The Music Center is also home to four renowned resident companies—Center Theatre Group, Los Angeles Master Chorale, LA Opera and LA Phil.

Position Summary

Armed Security Officers are responsible for safeguarding The Music Center’s patrons, visitors, employees, facilities, and assets through proactive security measures, exceptional customer service, and rapid response to safety and security incidents. Officers are assigned throughout all Music Center venues, theaters, parking facilities, and surrounding premises and are expected to maintain a visible, professional presence while ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Security Operations & Safety

  • Conduct continuous patrols of assigned areas, completing all scheduled patrol routes and security inspections as directed during each shift.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with The Music Center’s security policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Identify, investigate, document, and report 100% of observed safety hazards, security violations, suspicious activities, and emergency incidents in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to alarms, disturbances, emergencies, medical incidents, and requests for assistance, meeting established response time standards.
  • Assist with crowd management, access control, and public safety during performances, special events, and emergency situations.
  • Verify and authorize entry for employees, visitors, vendors, contractors, and other authorized personnel entering Music Center facilities.
  • Conduct access control procedures in accordance with established protocols, maintaining accurate records when required.
  • Protect Music Center property, equipment, and assets by identifying and mitigating potential security risks.
  • Complete accurate and detailed incident reports, activity logs, shift reports, and other required documentation before the end of each assigned shift.
  • Maintain complete and timely records that meet departmental quality and compliance standards.
  • Document all incidents involving injuries, property damage, policy violations, use of force, or law enforcement involvement.
  • Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic during routine operations, special events, and emergency situations to ensure safe and efficient movement.
  • Monitor parking structures and facilities, addressing parking violations, speed limit violations, and unauthorized vehicle access in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain accountability for all assigned equipment, firearms, munitions, communication devices, uniforms, and other department-issued property.
  • Successfully complete all required firearms qualifications, training certifications, and permit renewals within prescribed timelines.
  • Adhere to all uniform, grooming, appearance, and professional conduct standards while on duty.
  • Resolve customer service concerns and security-related inquiries in a respectful and service-oriented manner while maintaining security standards.
  • Participate in departmental training, drills, and professional development activities as assigned.
  • Complete all assigned patrols, inspections, and security checks during each shift.
  • Submit accurate and complete reports by required deadlines.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

 

  • High School Diploma, GED, or completion of 2 years of college
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a valid California Guard Card.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a valid BSIS Firearm Permit.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a valid California Baton Permit.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background investigation and drug screening.
  • Ability to maintain all required licenses, permits, certifications, and qualifications in active and compliant status.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and remain calm in high-pressure situations.

 

 

Desired Qualifications

 

  • Minimum one year of experience in security, public safety, law enforcement, military service, customer service, or a related field.
  • Experience working in entertainment venues, performing arts centers, hospitality environments, or large public gathering spaces.
  • Experience preparing incident reports and responding to emergency situations.

Salary

This full-time, non-exempt position offers a comparative hourly range of $23.00 –$26.25, along with a comprehensive total rewards package.
