ABOUT THE ROLE

The Learning and Civic Engagement Department connects Atlantans with art and ideas to inspire better civic life. We activate the museum’s collection and exhibitions with inclusive learning opportunities, and we collaborate to share creative practices alongside art and artists. Our work cultivates growth through inquiry and strengthens people’s connections with themselves, one another, and the wider world.

Rooted in the museum’s guiding principles—growth, inclusivity, connectivity, collaboration, optimism—and the methods of the department, the Coordinator, Public Engagement will focus on public programs and events for all Atlantans and visitors at the High Museum of Art. This role focuses on full-museum programs—Friday night programs, art camps, Oasis, holiday programs—and public conversations.

SCHEDULE

· Tuesdays – Saturdays 9:00a.m. – 5:00p.m.

· First, second, and third Fridays 2:00p.m. – 10:00p.m.

Evenings as necessary to fulfill public program responsibilities

In the summer, this position shifts to Monday-Friday, 10am-6pm to support summer camp; the first, second, and third Friday of the month schedule will remain 2pm-10pm.

SALARY: $45,000

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Program Planning and Logistics (50%)

· Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, Public Engagement, coordinates an annual slate of creative, engaging public education programs inspired by the High’s collections and exhibitions.

· Coordinates all aspects of program logistics: scheduling, space reservations registration, ticket building, contracting, ordering supplies, audio/visual support, and program evaluation.

· Coordinates contracts, payment, billing, travel and lodging for Friday night, Oasis, and public conversation performers and contractors.

· Participates in museum-wide, departmental, and project-based planning meetings; employs knowledge learned about exhibitions and special projects to inform program development.

· Coordinates camp logistics such as ordering supplies, building tickets, registration, implementation, and communicating with caregivers.

· Collaborates with Learning and Civic Engagement department members and other museum departments (especially Guest Relations, Membership, and Communications/Marketing) to promote public programs.

Program Implementation (40%)

· Coordinate and implement program offerings on-site for visitors of all ages, including:

o High Frequency Friday (First Friday, 6pm-10pm)

o Friday Jazz (Third Friday, 6pm-10pm)

o Oasis (Third Saturday 11am to 2pm)

o Art & … (Second Friday 6pm to 9pm)

o Public Conversations (Usually Thursdays at 7pm or weekends at 2pm, ~once per month)

o Summer/Spring Break Camps (one week in spring, nine weeks in summer)

o Holiday Programs (i.e. Valentines Day, Holiday Photos, Halloween, Gingerbread Program)

· Collaborates with Learning and Civic Engagement department members and other museum departments (especially Guest Relations, Special Events, AV technicians, Housekeeping, Security, and other support staff) to implement public programs.

Reporting and Tracking (10%)

· Uses and monitors program budget to achieve an efficient use of resources.

· Tracks spending and attendance throughout the fiscal year.

· Other duties as assigned.

WHAT WILL WE EXPECT OF YOU:

· Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to work independently.

· Ability to work scheduled weekend and/or evening hours to align with public program offerings.

· Ability to track spending and complete accounting requests.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

· Preferred: Proficiency with Trello, Momentus, and Reserve.

· Preferred: Experience developing and implementing public programs within a museum, educational, or non-profit context.

Education and Experience

· BA in relevant discipline and/or 3-5 years professional work experience.

Language Skills

· Ability to organize and express information in clear, logical sequence.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills required for working with volunteers, performers, staff, and the public.

· Diplomatic leadership skills and ability to coordinate and negotiate with various departments within the museum.

Mathematical Skills

· Basic math skills, including the ability to accurately track expenses, process payments, reconcile attendance and registration data, and maintain program records.

· Ability to use spreadsheets to organize data, perform basic calculations, and support reporting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
