Full job description

At Minnesota Cannabis Services, we’re not just building businesses — we’re building the people who make them great. Our team partners with leading operators across cultivation, manufacturing, distribution, and retail to deliver world-class expertise in legal, finance, analytics, marketing, HR, and technology.

We’re looking for professionals who take pride in their work, move with purpose, and thrive in fast-changing environments. The kind of people who hold themselves to high standards, think creatively, and find satisfaction in solving hard problems.

When you join our team, you’ll work alongside some of the most experienced leaders in the industry — professionals who share their knowledge freely and lead by example. You’ll be challenged, supported, and trusted to take ownership of meaningful work that shapes the future of one of the fastest-growing industries in America.

As an Assistant Manager, you are a key leader on the dispensary floor. You'll support store leadership in driving daily operations, developing staff, managing cash and inventory, and ensuring a compliant, customer-first environment. This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, highly regulated retail setting and is ready to grow their leadership career in cannabis.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations & Compliance

- Oversee daily store operations and ensure adherence to all SOPs and company policies
- Manage shift coverage, staffing adjustments, and timesheet accuracy
- Ensure full compliance with all state cannabis regulations and internal procedures
- Support change management implementations and ensure SOP updates are communicated and trained to all staff

Cash Management

- Open and close petty cash banks
- Facilitate cash vault services, pickups, and dropoffs
- Reconcile EOD cash reports and manage POS/card/cash accuracy

Inventory Management

- Receive deliveries and process vendor returns
- Restock products and maintain accurate inventory levels
- Conduct audits, adjustments, and oversee inventory destruction

Team Leadership & Development

- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of retail employees
- Facilitate new hire training and ongoing sales and leadership coaching
- Complete incident reports and maintain thorough documentation for performance management
- Make recommendations for promotions and terminations
- Ensure team compliance with attendance policies

Customer Experience

- Set the standard for excellent, compliant customer service on the floor
- Handle escalated customer issues with professionalism and efficiency
- Coach budtenders in real time on product knowledge, service standards, and compliance
- Manage customer queue and support floor operations during peak hours

Visual Merchandising & Marketing

- Manage in-store digital menus, displays, and kiosk menus
- Maintain print signage and banners
- Implement sales and promotional content and gather customer feedback on campaigns

Reporting

- Complete EOD, cash bank, and labor cost reporting
- Track transaction value and customer complaints
- Report employee relations issues, progressive discipline actions, and HR matters to leadership

Qualifications:

- Must be at least 21 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 2+ years of retail, hospitality, or customer service experience required; supervisory experience preferred
- Cannabis industry experience a plus — not required
- Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills
- Comfortable working in a highly regulated, compliance-driven environment
- Proficiency with POS systems and inventory software; cannabis seed-to-sale experience a plus
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Must be able to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and stand for up to 8 hours per shift
- Must meet all state requirements for employment in a licensed cannabis facility

Compensation & Benefits:

- $24.04/hr. | Full-time, 40 hours per week
- 50% Employee Discount
- Health benefits available, including both high-deductible and low-deductible plan options
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
- Earned Sick & Safe Time (ESST)
- Holiday Pay for anyone working New Year's Day, 4/20, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day
