Full job description

The Health Coordinator is responsible for oversight and coordination in the implementation of health and nutrition services for Tier 1 and 2 Head Start programs. This person will work in collaboration with staff, families, and health professionals to ensure positive health outcomes for children. The Health Coordinator will ensure that all child health and nutrition concerns are identified, and that children and families are linked to an ongoing source of continuous, accessible health care and insurance coverage.

About the Role

This is a full-time position with the expectation to work 40-hrs a week. The intended start salary for this position is $58,548-$66,000

Primary Job Duties

  • Maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the Head Start Program Performance Standards pertaining to Health Program Services, and MARC Policies and Procedures.
  • Complete reviews of children’s health records to determine children’s health status and any needed follow-up
  • Support the Community Health Workers with the completion of health screenings for assigned sites.
  • Monitor incoming documentation and data entry so that all enrolled children are up to date on an age-appropriate schedule and of well-childcare. This also includes working collaboration with MARC Head Start’s data team.
  • Prepare required reports and documentation in preparation for Direct Service Provider on-site meetings.
  • Assist 2-week post-partum visits.
  • Meet monthly with each of the Tier 1 and Tier 2 programs to review the status of all health requirements by utilizing the ChildPlus Health and PIR reports. Complete site visit form to note what was discussed, strategies developed, and who is responsible for completing follow-ups.
  • Utilize the Health Information Exchange (HIE) process to review and retrieve health information from local and state data systems.
  • Assist MARC Health Manager in reviewing Tier 1 and Tier 2 program’s policies and procedures and provide feedback and recommendations. This also includes developing Grantee-wide policies and procedures, and the completion of self-assessment.
  • Attend monthly internal program meetings to report health status for each program and complete data entry in the ChildPlus database. 
  • Facilitate and/or arrange training related to health and nutrition services for staff and families. 
  • Participate in health team meetings to discuss barriers and challenges with completing health requirements within the required timeframe. Provide technical assistance and resources for program staff. 
  • Assist Health Manager with the planning of Health Services Advisory Committee meetings.  
  • Assist MARC staff in strategic planning to implement grantee-wide initiatives that focus on wellness activities to improve the wellness of staff, children and families. 
  • Participate in supervision and leadership trainings and events. 
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with respect to Head Start/Early Head Start children, families, and staff in accordance with established policies and procedures. 
  • Other job duties as assigned by Health Manager.

About you
Education and Experience:

  • Required qualifications:
    • National health certification or licensor
    • Public health experience, and
    • Experience working with low-income families
  • Preferred qualifications
    • 2+ years of experience working in a Head Start health or nutrition program  
    • A master’s degree in health or related field

Physical Demands and Work Environment:*

  • Occasional need to lift typical office items, including small furniture, some equipment, boxes, etc. 
  • May be required to lift up to 20 pounds. 
  • Travel by car, bus, airplane or train may also be required associated with attendance at conferences, meetings and other duties carried out at distant locations in and out of state and in some cases where some overnight travel may be required. 
  • Noise level in work environment may be moderate to loud. 
  • Must be available, as requested, for a variety of evening and weekend meetings as well as social and community events.
