Responsibilities
Define and implement the end-to-end QA strategy and automated testing infrastructure across a diverse stack including hardware, backend, and frontend. Build and mentor a QA team in Portugal while ensuring quality gates are enforced within CI/CD pipelines.
Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree and over 5 years of QA experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role. Must possess strong coding skills for automation and experience testing across web, desktop, mobile, and hardware-adjacent systems.
Full job description
We build identity and access management products that combine custom hardware (biometric devices), a Bio API integration layer, C# .NET backend services, an Electron desktop client, Angular web frontend, and an Android app.
Quality span all of it.
This is our first QA hire in Portugal. You won't inherit a playbook – you'll write it. Your mandate is to define what "done" means from a quality standpoint, build the testing infrastructure, and over time grow a QA team that owns the full function. You'll work directly alongside our hardware R&D engineers, which means you'll be testing software that talks to real devices – not just web forms.
Responsibilities
The Job Role is focused on the following:
Own QA strategy end-to-end: unit, integration, API, UI, regression, hardware integration, and release sign-off.
Design and implement automated test frameworks from scratch across our stack (C# backend, Angular/Electron frontend, Android, REST APIs, Bio API device layer).
Define test plans that go well beyond happy paths – failure modes, edge cases, concurrent sessions, hardware faults, network degradation, adversarial inputs.
Integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines and enforce quality gates before release.
Work hands-on with hardware engineers to define acceptance criteria for device integration.
Build out and mentor a QA team in Portugal as the function grows.
Act as the internal voice of the end-user and the external auditor – push back on anything that ships with risk.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
5+ years in QA /Software testing, with at least 2 years in a lead or senior role.
Strong test automation skills – you write code, not just test cases (C#, TypeScript, Python or similar).
Proven experience with REST API testing (Postman, REST-assured, automated API frameworks).
Experience testing across multiple platforms (web, desktop, mobile).
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and integrating tests into them (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
SQL confidence - you can query a database to verify data integrity, not just check the UI.
Ability to build test strategy independently, not just execute what is given to you.
Strong English communication – you will work across teams and time zones.
Attention to detail.
Competencies:
Experience with hardware-adjacent system testing (devices, sensors, firmware interfaces).
Experience with biometric, identity, or access control systems.
Experience building QA from scratch in a product company.
Android testing experience (Espresso, UI Automator, or similar).
Performance and load testing experience.
Security-minded testing approach.
The Candidate should be able to commute daily (Monday to Friday) to the company office in Santa Maria da Feira.
