The Advanced Care Paramedic provides high-quality patient care within their scope of practice in the Emergency Department. They collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and act as a preceptor to support the development of colleagues and students.
Candidates must be registered and licensed with the College of Paramedics of Nova Scotia and hold a current BLS (HCP) certification. A high school diploma is required, and previous experience in a hospital or emergency care setting is preferred.

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, the Advanced Care Paramedic is assigned tasks by the Clinical Leader and works in collaboration with other interdisciplinary team members to meet patient care needs. They support patient care by practicing within the Advanced Care Paramedic scope of practice and demonstrating competencies in the provision of care.
The Advanced Care Paramedic accepts responsibility for maintaining and continually enhancing competencies through ongoing professional development, including participation in education programs, research, and continuous quality activities. Advanced Care Paramedics practice and conduct are defined by the professional registration body (EHSNS), and they are responsible for ensuring that registration is current and valid.
The Advanced Care Paramedic contributes to the efficiency and effective functioning of the department in meeting patient needs. They support the development of colleagues and students by acting as a preceptor and providing ongoing mentorship.
