The role involves owning the search and retrieval architecture and making key technical decisions to build scalable, high-quality capabilities. You will be responsible for designing evaluation systems and diagnosing retrieval issues across data quality and indexing.
Candidates need strong practical experience building production search systems, specifically with vector and hybrid search and retrieval evaluation. Proficiency in managing messy, heterogeneous data and balancing quality, latency, and cost trade-offs is required.

Together with our partner, we are looking for a:
to join our team in Belgrade and help build scalable, high-quality, and cost-efficient search and retrieval capabilities. In this role, you will own the search and retrieval architecture, evaluation approach, and key technical decisions across evolving data contexts.
Your profile:
Experience building, owning, or significantly shaping production search or retrieval systems in larger product environments
Strong practical experience with vector, keyword, and hybrid search, including ranking, reranking, query understanding, chunking, metadata strategies, and relevance tuning
Experience designing retrieval evaluation systems using golden datasets, human evaluation, automated metrics, regression testing, and failure analysis
Ability to diagnose retrieval issues across data quality, indexing, embeddings, queries, ranking, permissions, product UX, and evaluation design
Strong understanding of quality, latency, cost, and complexity trade-offs
Experience working with messy, heterogeneous, or evolving data
Strong judgment around what to build, buy, tune, simplify, or skip
