PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To lead safe, stable and efficient concentrator operations by optimising plant throughput, recovery, product quality, cost and asset utilisation in line with the business plan, legal requirements, approved operating standards and metallurgical control philosophy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent is essential
Chemical Engineering/Metallurgical Engineering/Mineral Processing Diploma/ Degree or NQF equivalent is essential
3-5 years relevant concentrator/mineral processing experience, with exposure to milling and flotation operations is essential
Minimum 3 years' experience in a supervisory position as Plant Foreman/Shift Superintendent/ Production Superintendent or equivalent is essential
COMPETENCIES:
Must have completed Concentrator unit processes: crushing, milling, classification, flotation, thickening, filtration, reagent dosing, water circuits and tailings interface
Mine Health and Safety Act requirements, site Codes of Practice, critical controls, legal appointment obligations and risk management principles
Metallurgical interpretation of trends, mass balance principles, recovery, grade, mass pull, liberation, grind, reagent response and circuit stability

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accountable for the safe and effective operation of the allocated concentrator section, including crushing, milling, classification, flotation, thickening, filtration, reagent services, water circuits and associated plant infrastructure where applicable.
Accountable for converting operational plans into disciplined daily execution through competent people, effective shift control, proactive risk management and strong cross-functional coordination with Metallurgy, Engineering and Mining.
Monitors labour, overtime, consumables, reagents, maintenance support costs and contractor spend. Identifies cost drivers and implements practical cost-control actions without compromising safety or performance. Provides detail planning on area of responsibility for plant business plan.
Prepares area inputs for business planning, budgets, production forecasts, risk registers and performance reports. Communicates performance drivers, risks, actions and confidence levels clearly.
Reports on plant performance.
Owns daily and weekly production execution against throughput, recovery, concentrate quality, operating cost, availability of standby equipment. and compliance targets.
Uses metallurgical data, trend analysis, sampling results and control-room information to identify deviations, stabilise circuits and support metallurgical optimisation initiatives.
Ensures adherence to site standards, codes of practice, risk assessments, permits, lock-out and isolation requirements, critical controls and visible felt leadership routines.
Ensures competent staffing, shift handovers, labour planning, coaching, performance management, discipline, leave planning, succession planning and training compliance.
Provides leadership to foremen, shift teams and contractors, ensuring competence, accountability and aligned execution across shifts.
Escalates constraints early and coordinates corrective actions with Engineering, Metallurgy, Mining, SHEQ, HR/ER and Supply Chain.
