Working closely with stakeholders, delivery teams, and subject matter experts. The Product Owner ensures that solutions are delivered in line with business goals, user needs, and agreed ways of working.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong collaboration, communication, and decision-making skills. The Product Owner is responsible for maximising value delivered by development teams through effective backlog management, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement. The role operates within a fast-paced environment where priorities may evolve, requiring adaptability, commercial awareness, and a focus on delivering measurable outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with business stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into clear product requirements and priorities.
  • Define, manage, and maintain a well-structured product backlog aligned to business value and organisational goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful delivery of product features and enhancements.
  • Create and maintain user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting documentation.
  • Facilitate backlog refinement activities and ensure work is broken down into achievable, testable increments.
  • Prioritise requirements based on business value, risk, dependencies, and stakeholder needs.
  • Lead sprint reviews and demonstrations, ensuring delivered functionality meets agreed business and quality expectations.
  • Support product releases and adoption activities to maximise business value and user engagement.
  • Monitor product performance and gather stakeholder feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to product roadmaps and longer-term planning activities.

 Business Analysis & Stakeholder Management

  • Conduct analysis to understand business processes, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Gather, document, and validate business and user requirements.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to ensure alignment between business objectives and delivered solutions.
  • Facilitate workshops, discovery sessions, and requirements gathering activities.
  • Build strong working relationships across teams and functions.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and point of contact for product-related discussions and decisions.

Agile Delivery

  • Collaborate with delivery teams to support effective sprint planning and execution.
  • Ensure requirements are clearly understood and ready for development.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives, and refinement sessions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across product and delivery practices.
  • Identify risks, issues, and dependencies, working collaboratively to resolve them.
  • Promote Agile best practices and a culture of collaboration, transparency, and accountability.

Communication

  • Communicate product priorities, decisions, and progress clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Provide regular updates on delivery status, risks, and opportunities.
  • Support knowledge sharing and the adoption of best practices across teams.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations professionally and transparently.
  • Facilitate effective communication between business and technical teams.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:

  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar role.
  • Proven experience working within Agile delivery environments, preferably Scrum.
  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Experience gathering, analysing, and documenting business requirements.
  • Demonstrable experience managing and prioritising product backlogs.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience delivering software, digital, or technology-enabled solutions.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of balancing business value with delivery effort.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Experience facilitating workshops and stakeholder discussions.
  • Ability to coach and support colleagues and less experienced team members.
  • Degree-level qualification desirable.
  • Agile, Scrum, Product Owner, Business Analysis, or Project Management certifications preferred.
