Responsibilities
The specialist will lead the facility's food safety culture, manage internal and external audit programs, and ensure ongoing regulatory compliance. They will also facilitate cross-functional training and drive continuous improvement through root cause investigations.
Requirements
Candidates must hold a degree or diploma in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of experience in food manufacturing compliance and proven expertise in GFSI-recognized audit programs are required.
Lead the Culture. Own the Audits. Raise the Standard.
We're partnering confidentially with a leading Canadian food manufacturer seeking an experienced Food Safety Culture & Compliance Specialist to champion food safety across a modern manufacturing facility.
This isn't a traditional QA role.
We're looking for someone who has personally owned GFSI-recognized audit programs, led internal audits from planning through closeout, driven external audit readiness, and influenced food safety culture across an entire operation.
If you've been the person responsible for ensuring the facility is always audit-ready—not simply supporting someone else—this is the opportunity for you.
Why Join?
High-impact role with visibility across the entire organization
Own the site's food safety culture and compliance strategy
Lead internal audit programs and external audit readiness
Work closely with Operations, Quality, Sanitation, Maintenance, R&D, and Warehouse
Join a company committed to continuous improvement and employee development
Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits
Opportunity to shape the food safety culture of a growing organization
What You'll Be Doing
Food Safety Culture Leadership
Champion a proactive food safety culture across all departments and shifts
Lead behavioural engagement initiatives that strengthen accountability and ownership
Facilitate mentorship, coaching, and cross-functional food safety programs
Deliver engaging food safety training and promote continuous learning throughout the facility
Audit & Regulatory Compliance
Own the internal audit program from planning through execution and closeout
Act as the Facility Lead Internal Auditor
Lead external audit readiness and coordinate third-party inspections
Ensure ongoing compliance with BRCGS, GFCP, HACCP, SFCR, FDA, Kosher, Halal, and customer requirements
Drive corrective actions and verify long-term compliance improvements
Continuous Improvement
Lead structured root cause investigations using 5-Why and other problem-solving methodologies
Analyze audit trends, non-conformances, and food safety data to identify improvement opportunities
Partner with Operations and cross-functional teams to strengthen compliance and reduce risk
Develop practical solutions that improve both food safety performance and operational effectiveness
Training & Leadership
Develop, maintain, and deliver food safety and regulatory training programs
Administer the organization's learning management platform
Update SOPs, work instructions, and training materials
Coach leaders and employees to build lasting food safety behaviours across the business
What We're Looking For
Required
Degree or diploma in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related discipline
Minimum 5 years of food safety and regulatory compliance experience within food manufacturing
Proven experience independently leading GFSI-recognized internal audit programs
Demonstrated ownership of BRCGS, SQF, or equivalent food safety audits
Strong knowledge of HACCP, BRCGS, SFCR, FDA, Kosher, Halal, and regulatory compliance
Experience leading root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions
Excellent communication, coaching, and leadership skills
Strong ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority
Preferred
Lead Internal Auditor certification
Experience administering a Learning Management System (LMS)
Experience delivering training across multiple departments and shifts
Background in ingredient, bakery, dairy, beverage, or food manufacturing
Experience working in facilities consistently achieving A, AA, or AA+ audit ratings
Who Will Thrive Here?
You'll be successful if you:
Take ownership rather than waiting for direction
Enjoy coaching and influencing people across all levels of an organization
Build trust through knowledge, communication, and leadership
Thrive in fast-paced manufacturing environments
Believe food safety is built through culture—not just compliance
Take pride in maintaining facilities that are always audit-ready
Apply Today
If you've led food safety audits, built strong compliance systems, and enjoy creating a culture where food safety becomes everyone's responsibility, we'd welcome a confidential conversation.
Apply today to learn more.
