Responsibilities

Maintain electrical services and conduct fire alarm testing across various historic sites in the Edinburgh region. Ensure site documentation is up-to-date and perform responsive repairs in compliance with health and safety regulations.

Requirements

Requires a completed recognized apprenticeship (SCQF Level 6) and valid CSCS/ECS and SQA/SJIB/JIB certifications. Candidates must hold 18th edition IEE regulations and have experience as a maintenance electrician.

Location: Edinburgh Castle
Working Hours: Monday - Friday/35 hours per week 
Interviews: To be held in person at Edinburgh Castle 

As part of the Monument Conservation Unit, you will have responsibility for the on-going implementation of conservation, routine maintenance and presentation tasks of Historic Environment Scotland monuments within the Area. We currently have two permanent Electrician positions available.

Key Responsibilities of this role

  • Maintain electrical services throughout the sites within the Edinburgh region., including Edinburgh Castle, The Palace of Holyrood House, Trinity House, St Ann’s Malting’s, Croft an Righ House & Education Centre. 
  • Fire alarm testing, Electrical Installation Condition Reports testing.
  • Upkeep & maintenance of small electrical plant and equipment
  • Throughout your employment with HES you will be required to attend training courses identified to assist the work, or to comply with health and safety legislation, Including First Aid (training as required, this may require overnight stays away from home). 
  • Keeping the working site clean and tidy
  • Basic responsive repairs as requested by visitor operation via the Property Maintenance & Compliance Manager.
  • This work will at times be carried out at height and in relatively confined spaces.
  • Maintaining site documentation is up-to-date including reports and fire folders
  • Carry out work in line with regulations and risk assessment/method statements
  • Delivery of an effective and courteous service to all service users, fairly and without discrimination. 
  • Ad hoc responsive maintenance requirements as directed by the Property Maintenance & Compliance Manager.

 

Key Requirements of the role:

Essential:

  • Completed recognised apprenticeship (SCQF Level 6)
  • Construction Skills Certification Scheme (C.S.C.S)/ Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (E.C.S) card
  • Scottish Qualifications Authority (S.Q.A) / Scottish Joint Industry Board (S.J.I.B) / Joint Industry Board (J.I.B) certificates
  • 18th edition I.E.E. regulations
  • Relevant experience including in the use of digital forms & reporting. 
  • Experience working as a maintenance electrician. 
  • Good all-round understanding and practical experience of electrical industry.
  • Experience of having contributed to or supported working together as part of a group of people or a team.
  • Willingness or ability to work outside in sometimes difficult weather conditions.
